Community Learning & Engagement is looking for a Graduate Student Library Assistant (GSLA) who is highly motivated and driven with an interest in teaching, event planning, a wide variety of literacies, and outreach.

Candidates will be expected to assist in the planning, designing, and delivery of basic educational orientations and activities for K-12 students across Tennessee. This includes developing and implementing innovative educational programs and resources for K-12 students and community members. This role focuses on teaching online literacy skills, providing research support, and event planning for a middle school audience.

Candidates should be adept at fostering student engagement and promoting interactive learning. This position will also participate in planning and carrying out vital outreach events, conferences, and initiatives. This job provides students with an excellent foundation for future academic or employment opportunities.

The position offers a 15-hour per week commitment with adaptable scheduling opportunities. Candidates should expect to work closely in a highly collaborative setting. This position will be expected to work throughout the year in fall, spring, and summer semesters; however, summer class registration is not required.

The compensation for this position is $14.00/hour. This position does not waive tuition or fees. Candidates should expect to serve in this role for 1-2 years. Start date for this position will be as soon as possible.

- Create and present educational activities and basic library information sessions to orient students in the community with research at a university library throughout the year.
- Design,



present, and implement STEM literacy initiatives for K-12 audiences throughout the year.
- Facilitate and organize several annual outreach conferences.
- Develop students’ literacy skills through reading comprehension and design challenges.
- Prepares students for the annual Tennessee Statewide Innovation Network (TSIN) competition and provides online instruction throughout the year.
- Identify and utilize relevant technology to support outreach teaching and projects.
- Assist with other departmental tasks as needed.
- Willing to work during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and adaptable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and experience in research and writing.
- Public speaking skills and savviness in social and instructional technologies for teaching K-12 students.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to work independently in a classroom environment and on scholarly projects.
- Willingness to learn technologies such as LibGuides, Canva, etc.
- Experience in creating dynamic and engaging presentations.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn survey technology and data visualization techniques.
- Interested in information literacy and publication.
- Providing any experience, involvement, passions, and/or projects in STEM would be welcome.
- Interest in scholarship and professional growth.
- Budgeting experience.
- Photography skills.
