Role Description The Chess Mentor is a full-time remote role focused on teaching and mentoring students of varying ages and skill levels in chess fundamentals and advanced strategies. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting live online lessons, preparing lesson plans and practice exercises, and guiding learners through openings, tactics, endgames, and game analysis.

The role involves assessing students’ current level, setting individualized learning goals, and tracking progress through regular feedback and performance reviews.

Mentor will also design engaging curriculum materials, recommend practice routines, and support learners in building critical thinking, concentration, and sportsmanship.



Collaboration with the EdifyChamps team to improve teaching methods, share best practices, and participate in training sessions is expected.

Qualifications

- Solid chess proficiency, with deep knowledge of openings, middlegame strategy, endgames, and common tactics; prior coaching or mentoring experience is highly beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to teach online, including designing structured lesson plans, explaining complex concepts clearly, and adapting instruction to different age groups and skill levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient, encouraging approach and a commitment to fostering confidence and good sportsmanship in learners.
- Comfort with digital tools and online platforms used for virtual classrooms, video conferencing, and chess interfaces (e.g., online chess servers and analysis tools).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to manage a consistent full-time schedule and maintain accurate records of student progress.
- Prior experience in tutoring, education, or youth programs is a plus; formal chess titles, certifications, or tournament experience are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment, demonstrate reliability, and collaborate professionally with the broader EdifyChamps team.
