About the role
We are looking for a Backend Software Developer with experience (3 to 5 years) in Python web development and relational databases to help develop and enhance groundMapper, our flagship geospatial platform. You will work as part of an agile development team, building scalable backend services, implementing current features, and maintaining existing functionality for a diverse client base.
The role involves collaborating closely with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions while ensuring the reliability and performance of our applications.
Key responsibilities
Design and Software Development
- Develop and maintain backend applications using Python, Flask, SQLAlchemy, and PostgreSQL.
- Design and implement new features and enhancements for our geospatial platforms.
- Write clean, efficient, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Participate in agile sprint planning, development, and delivery activities.
- Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve application defects and performance issues.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the codebase through refactoring and adherence to coding standards.
- Participate in code reviews and knowledge-sharing activities within the development team.
- Assist in the design and implementation of database schemas and data management solutions.
- Support the delivery of customer-specific enhancements and integrations.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Commercial experience developing applications with Python.
Experience with Flask or similar Python web frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of SQLAlchemy and relational database design.
Experience working with PostgreSQL.
- Understanding of RESTful API design and development.
- Experience using Git and collaborative software development workflows.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with geospatial technologies and spatial databases.
- Knowledge of PostGIS and GIS concepts.
- Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
- Familiarity with cloud-based environments and deployment pipelines.
- Experience supporting customer-specific software implementations.
- Understanding of software testing and automated testing practices.
- Experience working on medium to large-scale web applications.
