The Department of Economics at Ashoka University has 34 permanent faculty members, with research and teaching interests that span a broad range of fields which include economic theory, game theory, behavioral economics, experimental economics, theoretical and empirical macroeconomics, monetary economics, economic growth, development economics, time-series econometrics and different areas of applied microeconomics and financial economics.

The department offers a major in Economics and interdisciplinary majors in Economics & Finance, Economics & History, and in Politics, Philosophy & Economics (PPE). At the graduate level, the department offers MA in Economics and Ph.D. in Economics. About the Role The Coordinator, Undergraduate Studies in Economics, will serve as the primary academic advisor and administrative anchor for the undergraduate Economics programme at Ashoka University. The role involves guiding students across Economics Major/Minor/Concentration/PPE and interdisciplinary pathways (including Economics & Finance, Economics & Public Policy, Economics & History, and upcoming programmes) to effectively navigate the programme’s sequential and modular structure. The incumbent will provide academic counselling, ensure alignment with degree requirements, liaise with relevant university offices, and actively participate in undergraduate teaching. This role requires a professional economist with strong pedagogical commitment, student engagement capabilities,



and administrative acumen.

Academic

Advising & Student Counselling

- Serve as the primary academic advisor for all undergraduate students pursuing Economics-related pathways (Major, Minor, Concentration, PPE, and interdisciplinary programmes).
- Guide students in:

o Navigating the sequential and modular structure of the Economics curriculum.

o Efficiently managing course sequencing requirements.

o Balancing Major/Minor requirements with Foundational Courses (FCs), interdisciplinary components, and co-curricular obligations.

o Planning long-term academic trajectories aligned with their goals.

- Design and implement proactive strategies to identify and counsel academically struggling students.
- Provide structured, patient, and empathetic engagement to support informed academic decision-making.
- Ensure students understand academic rules, progression requirements, and implications of course choices.

Programme

Oversight & Coordination

- Serve as the visible academic face of the Department for undergraduate programme-related communication, outreach, and dissemination.
- Communicate clear vision for the undergraduate Economics programme to the student body.
- Contribute to strengthening programme coherence, academic rigor, and student experience.
- Demonstrate sustained interest in the pedagogy of economics and undergraduate learning.
- Support the smooth launch and integration of new interdisciplinary majors. Cross-Functional Liaison
- Coordinate with key university offices including:

o Office of Academic Affairs (OAA)





o Office of Examinations (OoE)

o Office of Learning Support (OLS)

o Other relevant offices as required

- Facilitate smooth administrative processes related to student progression, academic compliance, and programme delivery.
- Support student progression, academic compliance, and resolution of administrative issues.

Administrative

Responsibilities

- Oversee structured implementation of the undergraduate Economics programme.
- Monitor adherence to sequencing and progression norms.
- Support coordination of academic records, course approvals, and related administrative processes
- Work closely with the HoD, Economics, and OAA to ensure programme effectiveness and student success. Qualifications, Skills & Experience

PhD in Economics preferred; candidates with a Master’s degree and a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, student mentorship, and academic engagement will also be considered.

Solid understanding of Economics as a discipline, with the ability to contribute effectively to the academic and curricular objectives of the programme.

Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching, student learning outcomes, and academic excellence.

Ability to balance teaching responsibilities with academic administration and programme-related operational requirements.

This role is primarily focused on teaching, student development, and academic administration, with no formal expectation of research output. Key Competencies & Attributes
