Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Incharge Refits to lead and manage ship repair, refurbishment, conversion, dry docking, and vessel maintenance projects. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, execution, coordination, and successful delivery of ship repair projects while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, budget, and schedule requirements. The role requires close coordination with clients, classification societies, subcontractors, production teams, and various shipyard departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Execution
- Lead end-to-end execution of ship repair, dry docking, refit, conversion, and maintenance projects.
- Develop project schedules, resource plans, work breakdown structures, and execution strategies.
- Monitor project progress and ensure timely completion within approved budgets.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation plans to avoid delays and cost overruns.
- Ensure smooth coordination between engineering, production, procurement, QA/QC, and subcontractors.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for vessel owners, clients, consultants, and classification societies.
- Attend project meetings, progress reviews, and technical discussions with stakeholders.
- Manage client expectations and ensure timely resolution of technical and commercial issues.
- Prepare and present project status reports and performance updates.
Technical Coordination
- Review repair specifications, work scopes, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with engineering teams for repair methodologies and technical solutions.
- Ensure execution of steel renewal,
piping repairs, machinery overhauls, blasting & painting, outfitting, and other marine repair activities.
- Liaise with Class Surveyors and regulatory authorities for inspections and approvals.
Resource & Cost Management
- Plan manpower, equipment, dry dock resources, and subcontractor requirements.
- Monitor project costs, productivity, and resource utilization.
- Review and approve subcontractor work progress and invoices.
- Support variation order management and additional work identification.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with shipyard HSE policies, Class rules, statutory regulations, and client requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.
- Monitor quality standards and ensure timely closure of inspection and punch list items.
- Participate in audits, safety reviews, and incident investigations as required.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly project progress reports.
- Maintain project documentation, records, schedules, and completion reports.
- Ensure proper project handover and close-out documentation upon completion.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related discipline.
- PMP or Project Management certification will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 10–15 years of experience in Ship Repair, Shipbuilding, Marine Projects, Offshore Fabrication, or Dry Dock Operations.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in managing ship repair/refit projects in a shipyard setting.
- Experience handling commercial vessels, naval vessels, offshore support vessels, tankers, bulk carriers, or specialized marine assets is preferred.
