Role Overview
This is a hands-on leadership role that sits at the intersection of engineering, product, and commercials. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation, a genuine commercial instinct, and the ambition to grow into a broader organisational leadership role. This is not a purely technical position, it requires the ability to win customers, shape the product strategy, build partnerships, and contribute directly to revenue alongside building great technology. The right candidate will, over time, could evolve from leading the IoT function to leading the business, with increasing P&L; accountability, strategic scope, and organisational authority.
Critically, we are looking for someone who is oriented towards the future of IoT, not merely someone who has mastered where the industry has been. The next phase of industrial IoT is being shaped by edge AI, digital twins, AI-native connectivity, and converged IT/OT architectures. The person in this role must be able to anticipate these shifts and position ImmensysTech ahead of them, not react to them after the fact.
This role also carries an explicit CEO succession pathway. The right individual will, over a 18 to 24 -year horizon, have the opportunity to take on full P&L; ownership, strategic authority, and organisational leadership of ImmensysTech
provided they demonstrate the commercial impact, market credibility, and leadership maturity to earn it.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product & Engineering Roadmap
- Define and own the IoT product and engineering roadmap in alignment with the company's strategic priorities across utilities, mobility, ITS, and smart city domains.
- Translate business requirements and customer use cases into detailed product and system requirements, working closely with the MD/ED/CEO, Sales, and Customer Success teams.
- Prioritise features, platform capabilities, and technical investments across the IoT product portfolio.
- Lead product reviews, sprint planning, and milestone tracking for IoT engineering deliverables.
- Bring a forward-looking technology lens to the roadmap, anticipating where edge AI, digital twins, AI-native IoT platforms, and next-generation connectivity (5G SA, Matter, Wi-Fi 7) are heading, and ensuring ImmensysTech is positioned ahead of, not behind, these shifts.
2. Edge Device & Platform Architecture
- Architect and oversee the development of industrial-grade edge computing devices, intelligent controllers, and embedded platforms for real-time, deterministic performance.
- Drive design decisions across hardware-software co-design, firmware architecture, OS selection (RTOS / Linux), and low-latency compute at the edge.
- Ensure all edge platforms meet reliability, ruggedisation, power, and environmental specifications for deployment in harsh field conditions.
- Lead technical evaluation and selection of SoCs, MCUs, connectivity modules (4G/5G, LoRa, NB-IoT, Wi- Fi, Zigbee, RS485, CAN, Modbus), and sensor interfaces.
- Evaluate and adopt next-generation edge paradigms, including AI-accelerated inference at the edge, tinyML for constrained devices, and platform-agnostic edge-cloud orchestration, ensuring product architecture does not become anchored to legacy assumptions.
3. Connectivity, Protocol Stack & Platform Integration
- Own the connectivity architecture across MQTT, CoAP, OPC-UA, Modbus, BACnet, AMQP, and RESTful APIs.
- Lead integration with SCADA, ICCC, ITS management systems, cloud IoT platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub), and enterprise ERP/GIS systems.
- Oversee OTA update infrastructure, remote device management, and zero-trust security frameworks.
- Stay ahead of the protocol and connectivity evolution, including Matter/Thread for device interoperability, Sparkplug B for industrial MQTT standardisation, and LwM2M for device lifecycle management and make informed bets on where the platform should invest.
4. Commercial & Business Development
- Own the commercial positioning of ImmensysTech's IoT product portfolio; defining pricing, packaging, and go-to-market strategy for key verticals (utilities, ITS, smart cities, industrial automation).
- Lead or co-lead pre-sales engagements with enterprise and government clients, translating technology into compelling business outcomes and building credibility with technical buyers and C-suite decision makers.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop strategic partnerships, OEM relationships, and system integrator alliances that expand ImmensysTech's market reach.
- Contribute directly to revenue, owning or co-owning a commercial target alongside the sales function and actively supporting deal closure through solution design and executive engagement.
• Track competitive landscape, technology trends, and customer feedback to inform product investment decisions and identify new business opportunities.
- Leverage an established market network, active relationships with senior buyers, government decision-makers, or system integrators in utilities, ITS, smart cities, or industrial sectors to accelerate deal origination, reduce the sales cycle, and open doors that would otherwise take years to develop. A robust, active network is a material selection criterion for this role.
- Act as a visible external ambassador for ImmensysTech, presenting at industry forums, engaging with standards bodies, and building the company's reputation as a credible, forward- thinking IoT partner.
5. P&L; & Financial Stewardship
- Own or co-own the IoT business unit P&Lincluding; revenue, gross margin, cost of development, and EBITDA contribution.
- Build and manage the IoT product investment budget; make and defend trade-off decisions between short-term delivery and long-term platform investment.
- Develop commercial models: capex/opex, SaaS, licensing, AMC and ensure pricing reflects both market positioning and financial sustainability.
- Report regularly to the Group MD / ED / CEO on commercial performance, product milestones, and strategic priorities.
- As the CEO pathway progresses, take on increasing financial authority with the expectation of
owning the full company P&L; within the 23-year transition horizon.
6. Team Leadership & Engineering Culture
- Build, mentor, and lead a cross-functional IoT engineering team comprising embedded engineers, firmware developers, platform architects, and QA engineers.
- Establish engineering best practicescode reviews, CI/CD for firmware, HIL/SIL testing, and design review processes.
- Foster a culture of ownership, technical rigour, and continuous improvement.
- Develop second-line leaders within the IoT team, building bench strength and ensuring the function can scale independently.
- Cultivate a team culture that embraces the future of IoT where engineers are curious about emerging paradigms and are not anchored to how devices were built in the past.
7. Delivery & Quality
- Own end-to-end delivery of IoT engineering milestones from proof-of-concept through field pilot to production deployment.
- Establish and track KPIs for device uptime, data reliability, firmware quality, and customer SLA adherence.
- Drive root cause analysis and resolution for field issues, ensuring rapid turnaround and systematic prevention.
- Ensure compliance with relevant certifications and standards (CE, FCC, BIS, IS/IEC, and domain-specific standards for utilities and transportation).
