Evaluation of the London Borough of Redbridge Care Technology Pilot What We Did The Redbridge Care Technology Pilot, one of eight projects funded by the Adult Social Care Technology Fund, was designed to test and evaluate the efficacy of four different care technologies in detecting and preventing falls among adults over the age of 60. As the pilot’s evaluation partner, Apteligen worked collaboratively with the implementation team and the different care settings supporting older residents across the borough, to assess the impact on staff and residents, and the potential cost benefit across the health and care system in Redbridge. The project aimed to understand how these technologies could improve care quality, reduce avoidable hospital admissions, and support staff and resident wellbeing, while generating learning that could support wider adoption.

How We Did It

We carried out a mixed-method impact and economic evaluation that combined quantitative data analysis with qualitative insights from staff and residents. We analysed falls data and associated healthcare resource utilisation collected over the pilot period, alongside a cost-benefit analysis to determine monetary advantages to the NHS. This was supplemented by interviews and focus groups with frontline care staff, residents,



and family members to capture the real-world experience of adopting these technologies into daily care routines.

What The Project Achieved The evaluation identified promising evidence in relation to falls prevention for two of the technologies included in the pilot. We also found strong evidence of their value in relation to supporting improved care planning, earlier intervention for emerging health issues, and increased reassurance for staff and families regarding resident safety. A copy of our final report is due to be published later in 2026.
