Job Overview

We are seeking detail-oriented 3D Building Annotation Specialists to contribute to a high-precision mapping project using JOSM (OpenStreetMap Editor). The role involves annotating building structures with architectural details (footprints, elevation

levels, roofs) to generate 3D-ready models for mapping initiatives. This is a position ideal for GIS professionals, cartographers, or remote sensing enthusiasts.

Key Responsibilities

1. Geospatial Annotation:

- Trace and label building components (footprints, floors, roof structures) in JOSM using

high-resolution satellite imagery.

- Capture architectural details (e.g., multi-level elevations, roof overhangs) beyond

standard OSM footprints.

2. Metadata Tagging:

- Apply OSM-compatible tags (e.g., building:part, min_elevation, roof:material) to

define materials, heights, and structural attributes.

- Ensure consistency with project-specific taxonomy

(e.g., role=outline, type=building).

3. Data Quality Assurance:

- Organize annotated segments into single relations for 3D mesh compatibility.
- Validate alignment between OSM data and satellite imagery,



adjusting offsets as

needed.

4. Export & Delivery:

- Export finalized annotations in .osm.pbf format without uploading to OSM.
- Provide feedback on workflow challenges or tool improvements.

Requirements

• Technical Skills:

- Proficiency in JOSM (or similar OSM editing tools).
- Familiarity with GIS concepts, 3D modeling, or LiDAR/orthoimagery interpretation.
- Basic understanding of OpenStreetMap tagging standards (training provided for project-specific tags).

• Soft Skills:

- Solid attention to detail (e.g., distinguishing roof shadows from footprints).
- Ability to follow structured guidelines and adapt to feedback.
- Excellent communicator

• Nice-to-Have:

- Experience with 3D mapping or architectural drafting.
- Knowledge of Python/QGIS for automation (optional).

Project Deliverables

• Accurately annotated .osm.pbf files per building (e.g., French Ambassadors Residence

example).

• Completed feedback forms on annotation usability.
