Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Category Head Cotton & Formal Trousers to lead the trouser category from concept to final production. The candidate must have strong technical knowledge of fabrics, fits, patterns, garment construction, sourcing, trims, costing, and quality standards.

The role requires someone who can build commercially strong trouser ranges for the domestic menswear market while balancing design, fit, comfort, quality, cost, and production feasibility.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the cotton and formal trouser category including design direction, range planning, product development, sourcing, sampling, costing, and production handover.
- Develop seasonal ranges across formal trousers, cotton trousers, chinos, and smart casual bottoms.
- Study market trends, competitor brands, fabric innovations, fits, colours, and customer preferences.
- Source and develop fabrics such as cotton twill, dobby, satin, stretch cotton, TR, PV, poly-viscose, linen blends, and suiting fabrics.
- Evaluate fabric quality, GSM, stretch, shrinkage, colour fastness, and overall performance.
- Develop and approve trims including buttons, zippers, waistbands, pocketing, interlining, and accessories.
- Prepare and review design sheets, tech packs, measurement specs, and BOMs.
- Lead fit development across slim, tapered, straight, and comfort fits.
- Coordinate ith sampling, merchandising, vendors, production, and quality teams for timely development and approvals.
- Review samples from proto to bulk and ensure consistency in fit, quality, and finishing.
- Manage costing, consumption, and value engineering to meet margin targets.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to fabric, fit, construction, and finishing.
- Ensure smooth production execution and timely delivery.




- Track sales feedback, bestsellers, and quality issues to improve future ranges.

Required Skills

- Strong technical knowledge of mens trousers, cotton bottoms, formal trousers, and chinos.
- Valuable understanding of woven fabrics, blends, stretch fabrics, and suiting materials.
- Strong knowledge of trouser fits, patterns, construction, and finishing.
- Experience in fabric sourcing, trims, costing, and production feasibility.
- Ability to create commercially viable products for the domestic market.
- Strong eye for fit, detailing, and quality.
- Ability to prepare and review tech packs and production documents.
- Strong coordination and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience

- 10+ years of experience in menswear bottomwear, especially cotton and formal trousers.
- Experience with domestic brands, retail, export houses, or manufacturing units.
- Background in category ownership, sourcing, and product development preferred.

Qualification

- Degree or diploma in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Textile Design, or related field.
- Strong technical product knowledge and relevant experience is mandatory.
