We are seeking a skilled Class Approved Welder to perform high-quality welding and fabrication work on marine vessels, ship repair projects, and structural components in compliance with classification society standards.
Job Overview
Responsible for carrying out welding and fabrication activities on ships, offshore structures, and marine equipment in accordance with approved welding procedures and class requirements. The role involves interpreting technical drawings, performing structural welding using various techniques, and ensuring all work meets quality, safety, and classification society standards. The welder will work closely with supervisors, engineers, and inspection teams during repair, maintenance, and fabrication projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform welding activities on ship structures, pipelines, and marine equipment as per class-approved procedures
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and work instructions
- Carry out SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, or MIG/MAG welding as required by job specifications
- Ensure weld quality meets classification society standards and inspection requirements
- Conduct repair and fabrication work during dry-docking and onboard maintenance
- Assist in cutting, fitting, and alignment of metal structures before welding
- Perform defect identification and rework as per inspection feedback
- Maintain welding equipment and ensure safe working practices
- Follow all safety, environmental, and shipyard regulations strictly
- Coordinate with supervisors, inspectors, and quality control teams
Requirements
- Valid Class Approved Welder Certificate from recognized classification society (ABS / DNV / LR / BV or equivalent)
- Minimum 3-8 years of welding experience in shipyard, marine, or offshore industry
- Proficiency in multiple welding processes (SMAW / GTAW / FCAW preferred)
- Ability to read technical drawings and welding symbols
- Positive understanding of marine steel structures and fabrication standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in ship repair, dry-docking, or offshore fabrication projects
- Additional welding certifications (6G position, multi-position welding approval)
- Familiarity with NDT basics (visual inspection, dye penetrant awareness)
- Experience working under classification society inspection conditions
- Knowledge of safety standards in shipyards and confined space work
