Role & responsibilities

Senior Product Manager, Audience Growth

Amar Ujala Digital • Noida (on-site) • 4 to 6 years experience

Role Summary

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to own the entire audience-growth lifecycle at Amar Ujala Digital: how a reader discovers us, lands on our app or site, activates, builds a daily habit, and stays. This is a high-ownership role spanning discovery, mobile-web-to-app acquisition, activation, retention, and engagement. Critically, this is an AI-first growth role: as discovery moves from links to answers, you will own how Amar Ujala stays found, chosen, and habit-forming in an AI-mediated world, and how we use AI inside our own products to grow. The role begins as an individual-contributor position and will quickly grow to include people-management responsibilities as the charter scales, so we are looking for someone ready to both build hands-on and lead a team.

Key Responsibilities

You will own the audience funnel end to end. Specific areas include:

- AI-led discovery and AEO: Own how Amar Ujala wins in an answer-engine world. Build the product capabilities behind Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) and AI Overviews, including structured content, metadata, and surfaces that make our journalism discoverable and citable by AI systems, and protect us against the erosion of traditional referral traffic.
- AI-first product building: Treat AI as a core building block, not an add-on. Use AI to power discovery, personalisation, content recommendations, on-app search, summarisation, and reader experiences, and continually find where AI can compound growth and engagement.
- Mobile-web-to-app acquisition: Own the product work that converts our large mobile-web audience into app users, including deferred deep links, high-intent wedges such as astrology and other sticky sections, and targeted migration experiments.
- Enabling SEO and paid marketing: Partner closely with the SEO and paid-marketing teams, who own their channels, and own all the product work that makes their recommendations executable, including site and app changes, landing experiences, technical SEO enablement, and attribution support.
- App discovery and homepage: Own the app homepage and content feed as the central discovery surface,

balancing editorial, hyperlocal, and commercial needs so readers reliably find what they came for.
- Activation: Improve the install-to-active journey and first-session experience, closing the gap between installs and genuinely activated users.
- Retention and habit: Own retention curves (D1 through M1 and beyond) and push-notification strategy.
- Engagement features: Own games, puzzles, and other habit-forming engagement surfaces that bring readers back daily and deepen session frequency.
- Loyalty and rewards: Use hard cohort data to decide whether to scale, redesign, or retire the rewards program, then drive whichever path the data supports.
- App health and store presence: Drive app-store rating recovery toward best-in-class, partner with engineering on performance issues such as crashes and ANRs, and own review and reputation management.
- Measurement and attribution: Own a reliable attribution and analytics setup, including segmenting referral and AI-driven traffic by intent to inform strategy and budgeting.
- Handoff to reader revenue: Feed an engaged, well-understood audience into the reader-revenue funnel so growth and monetisation compound together.
- Cross-functional delivery: Work day to day with engineering, design, editorial, the SEO and paid-marketing teams, and data to ship and measure.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- 4 to 6 years in product management, with meaningful ownership of growth, audience, consumer engagement, or app-growth surfaces.
- A demonstrable record of moving acquisition, activation, or retention metrics through experimentation, not just shipping features. You should be able to walk us through a growth program you ran end to end.
- A solid, current point of view on how AI is reshaping discovery and product, including AI Overviews, answer engines and AEO,

and how to build AI-first features into a consumer product. Hands-on experience shipping AI-powered product is a strong plus.
- Strong growth fluency: you think and argue in terms of installs, activation, DAU and MAU, retention curves, funnels, and CAC.
- An understanding of how organic discovery works and how it is changing, including technical SEO enablement and app-store optimisation, enough to be a credible product partner to specialist SEO and paid-marketing teams.
- Familiarity with attribution and MMP tooling, product analytics, and push or CRM platforms.
- Strong app-first product sense, with an instinct for discovery, feed, and first-session experiences, and an awareness of app performance and quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to align engineering, design, editorial, and marketing behind a plan.
- Comfort owning ambiguity and operating hands-on in an early, fast-moving charter.

Preferred Attributes

- Experience in news, media, content, or another high-DAU consumer app.
- Demonstrated experience building AI-first or AI-powered consumer features.
- Hands-on experience with app-store optimisation, lifecycle or CRM messaging, push-notification programs, or web-to-app migration.
- Experience running an engagement, gaming, or loyalty and rewards program.
- Empathy for a Hindi-belt, value-conscious audience that may be quite different from yourself. Comfort with spoken and written Hindi is a must have.

What Can the Candidate Expect in Return?

- A founding role on a high-visibility charter where you shape the agenda rather than inherit a backlog.
- Ownership of the top of the funnel that feeds the company's entire digital future, on a brand with genuine scale and a real hyperlocal moat.
- A mandate to build for an AI-first world, with the room to define how a major Indian publisher wins in AI-driven discovery.
- A clear growth path: the role starts hands-on and individual-contributor and will quickly expand to include people-management responsibilities as the charter grows, with the opportunity to build and lead the team around it.
- Close working access to senior leadership and a real seat in strategic decisions.
