Job Description
The Data Center Engineer is responsible for the management, maintenance, and deployment of the physical infrastructure within the data center. This role involves both building and operational support activities to ensure optimal data center performance and reliability.
The engineer will be actively involved in activities such as rack installation, cable laying, network device installation, cable dressing, and material handling. In addition, the role includes troubleshooting hardware and connectivity issues, coordinating with customers and OEM vendors, and ensuring all incidents are resolved within defined SLA timelines.

Build
Perform rack and stack activities for hardware devices as per
approved layout and design.
Rack fixing as per layout
Carry out rack installation and alignment according to data centre floor plans.
Execute copper and fibre cable laying, patching, cable dressing, laser
testing, and loopback testing as per standard build procedures.
Demonstrate strong understanding of fibre and copper types,
including MTP break-out, LC, bundle, and Cat6 cabling.
Sound understanding of patch panel concepts, including installation,
labelling, and connectivity management.
Ability to interpret and work effectively on data centre (DC) layouts
and floor designs.
Perform power redundancy testing and ensure all systems meet
design and safety requirements.
Conduct site surveys and audits to verify physical infrastructure
readiness and compliance.
Exhibit strong communication and coordination skills while working
with Colocation (Colo) vendors, clients, and internal teams.
Possess solid knowledge of the RMA (Return Material Authorization)
process, including defective part replacement and tracking.
Roles and Responsibilities
The roles and responsibilities of the build and support Engineer are:
Operational activities (not limited to):
- Work on tickets assigned to fix incidents in the data center on-site visit is required
- Timely updates with accurate work logs to be updated in ticketing tool.
- Meet all agreed SLAs with the Customer.
- Immediately escalate to the central project team any abnormal situation in the data center concerning Ericsson equipment at site.
- Asset Management onsite at the data center and reporting
- Site audit conducted as per the official guidelines
- Site spare inventory management and reporting
- Remote support to the onsite engineer to solve the issue
- Support other projects within META program.
Build activities (Not limited to):
- Installation and commissioning of compute and network racks.
- Fibre and copper cable laying, termination, labelling, and dressing.
- Installation and configuration support for network and compute devices.
- Material receipt, verification, and inventory management.
- Performing troubleshooting for hardware, link, and connectivity issues.
- Engaging with customers, vendors, and internal teams for issue resolution.
- Ensuring adherence to site safety and quality standards during build and maintenance activities.
- Maintaining documentation related to site build, audits, and asset tracking.
Material Delivery & Inventory Management
- Support the delivery/logistics team in managing site access and overseeing material inbound and outbound activities.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of materials in designated areas within the data center.
- Coordinate with the delivery and operations teams to facilitate smooth and timely material delivery.
- Be physically present at the site during deliveries and assist in Proof of Delivery (POD) verification and documentation.
- Update and maintain inventory records to reflect newly received or dispatched materials accurately.
- Assist in conducting inventory audits and reconciliation as per customer and compliance requirements.
Shift Schedules and Location
Shift Schedule - The Break and Fix Data Center Support Engineer has to be available mostly during weekdays and regular business hours. To be able to work in shifts and in odd hours as and when needed.
Location – The Engineer will be expected to work out of Customer Data Center premises. From time to time, they might be required to visit an Ericsson office for team meetings, trainings, etc.

- Strong technical expertise in data center operations and IT infrastructure, including servers, switches, routers, cabling systems, and fibre optics.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain physical infrastructure within a data center environment.

- Skilled in reviewing, enhancing, and maintaining Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and operational guidelines.

Technical Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of hardware within data center environments.
- Strong hands-on experience and in-depth understanding of Cisco, Ciena, Juniper, and Arista network devices and technologies.
- Extensive experience in data center build activities, including rack installation, device mounting, cable laying, labelling, and dressing.
- Solid technical knowledge and experience with HPE servers and their components, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Practical hands-on experience in hardware parts replacement and troubleshooting of physical infrastructure components.
- Strong expertise in optical, copper, and fibre cabling systems, including fibre standards, connector types, and cable management practices.
- Experience working with ticketing systems and managing incidents, service requests, and change activities through established processes.
- Sound understanding of the IT Service Management (ITSM) lifecycle, including ticket handling, SLA adherence, escalation management, and stakeholder communication.
Educations and Experience
- Technical degree, preferably in IT/computer science domain.
- 2-5 years of hands on experience working in a data centre workplace.
