- Perform detailed clinical evaluation, history taking, and physical examination of surgical patients.
• Manage patients admitted under the surgery department, including daily rounds and follow-up.
• Attend emergency and trauma cases, provide primary surgical care, and stabilize patients.
• Assist in elective and emergency surgeries; perform minor surgical procedures under supervision.
• Provide bedside procedures such as:
- Wound dressing, suturing, debridement
- Incision & drainage of abscess
- Catheterization, Ryles tube insertion
- Tube thoracostomy (if competent)
• Pre-operative preparation including consent, risk counseling, and optimization of patients.
• Assist consultants in major surgeries and perform parts of operations as delegated.
• Maintain sterile techniques, surgical safety protocols, and WHO surgical safety checklist.
• Coordinate with OT staff for instrumentation, patient positioning, and monitoring.
• Ensure accurate and timely intraoperative documentation.
• Monitor postoperative patients in ward, ICU, and recovery areas.
• Manage pain, fluids, drains, antibiotics, and complications.
• Evaluate wound healing and ensure proper postoperative instructions.
• Prepare discharge summaries and follow-up plans.
• Maintain complete patient case records, progress notes, treatment orders, and operative notes.
• Ensure accurate documentation for medico-legal cases (MLC) and consent forms.
• Adhere to NABH, infection control protocols, and hospital policies.
• Communicate patient status, surgical plans, and progress with consultants.
• Coordinate with radiology, anesthesia, ICU, physiotherapy, and other specialty teams.
• Counsel patients and attenders regarding treatment plans, risks, and postoperative care (as per guidelines).
• Attend emergency calls including trauma, acute abdomen, bleeding, and critical surgical cases.
• Provide rapid assessment and first-line management.
• Participate in Code Blue and resuscitation activities.
• Supervise and guide junior residents, interns, and nursing staff.
• Participate in academic rounds, CMEs, seminars, and mortality meetings.
• Engage in surgical skills training and case presentations.
