Role & responsibilities
Job Description:
Candidates should have a mix of deep technical knowledge in wet limestone-gypsum processes, solid multi-disciplinary engineering management skills, and familiarity with power plant retrofit requirements. The role requires managing the design of limestone handling, slurry preparation, absorber design, and gypsum dewatering systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Core Technical Competencies (FGD Subsystems)
- Wet Limestone-Gypsum Process Expertise: In-depth understanding of wet limestone forced oxidation (LSFO) systems to achieve high efficiency (>98% SO removal).
- Absorber Design & Optimization: Proficiency in designing spray tower absorbers, including slurry circuit optimization, pH control, and mist eliminator design.
- Duct, Damper, Expansion Joint: In depth Knowledge of understanding of duct sizing calculation, preparation of RFQ dampers and expansion joint and its technical evaluation. Clear understanding of interface engineering with the existing duct system.
- Limestone Handling & Milling System Design: Capability to design bulk material handling systems for Run-of-Mine (ROM) limestone, including conveyors, bucket elevators, crushing, and storage silos.
- Gypsum Dewatering and Handling: Design knowledge of gypsum dewatering, including vacuum belt filters or centrifuges, thickeners, and gypsum storage.
- Corrosion & Material Selection: Expertise in selecting materials suitable for highly acidic and abrasive slurry environments.
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) & P&ID;: Ability to create and review PFDs, Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs;), and mass/energy balances for reagent preparation and slurry systems.
- Understanding and skill for development of Plant Layout and space optimisation of FGD plant layout
2. Engineering Management Competencies
- Multi-disciplinary Team Leadership: Ability to lead teams covering mechanical, structural, civil, electrical, and C&I; (Control & Instrumentation).
- Project Engineering & Interface Management: Managing the interaction between FGD systems and existing power plant infrastructure (e.g., ID fans, ESP, ductwork).
- Compliance & Regulatory Knowledge: Ensuring designs meet local environmental regulations regarding emissions and wastewater disposal.
- Technical Specification & Vendor Management: Preparing detailed technical specifications and evaluating vendor submissions for specialized equipment like slurry pumps, agitators, and vacuum filters.
- CAD/PLM Tools: Proficiency in design tools like AutoCAD and 3D modelling for layout optimization in space-constrained sites.
3. Specific System Requirements
- Limestone Handling: Designing a reliable, safe, and efficient system for loading, conveying, and storing, capable of managing high-capacity requirements (e.g., 150 TPH).
- Gypsum Plant: Ensuring the gypsum byproduct meets quality standards for commercial reuse (e.g., in wallboard manufacturing).
- Absorber: Designing the absorber to handle high-temperature incoming gas, especially in retrofit scenarios where flue gas bypass is not used.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree OR Master in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
- Minimum 15 - 20 years of experience in power plant engineering and hands-on experience in FGD projects of 500 MW and above coal-based thermal power stations, preferably 660 MW supercritical units, with specifically in FGD system design.
- Age- 40 Years to 55 Years
- Monthly Consolidated Pay (Negotiable)

- Employee/Retired employee of Public Sector Undertaking/Reputed Private Sector industries shall be given preference.
