Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Data Analyst / Senior Data Analyst to support the expansion of an established enterprise Finance Data Platform within a leading global bank.
The existing platform has been implemented for the Markets business, with established data models, data management processes, governance standards, and transformation capabilities. The programme is now expanding the platform to onboard additional business areas, including Corporate Banking, Wealth Management, Private Banking, and other banking businesses.
The Data Analyst will play a key role in understanding the data landscape of these businesses, analysing source systems and datasets, identifying data requirements and gaps, performing detailed data profiling, and supporting the mapping and integration of data into the existing Finance Data Platform.
Key Responsibilities
1. Analyse the data landscape of newly onboarded business areas, including source systems, products, processes, data structures, data ownership, and Finance data requirements.
2. Assess source data against the existing Finance Data Platform and Markets data model, identifying reusable data concepts, gaps, overlaps, additional attributes, and business-specific requirements.
3. Perform detailed data profiling and analysis using advanced SQL to assess completeness, accuracy, consistency, uniqueness, validity, data distributions, relationships, anomalies, and data quality issues.
4. Develop detailed source-to-target mappings and data specifications, including attribute mappings, transformation rules, derivations, enrichment logic, defaulting rules, business definitions, and data classifications.
5. Support data harmonisation across business areas by analysing differences in terminology, product structures, customer and account hierarchies, reference data, and Finance data definitions.
6. Define and execute data validation and reconciliation activities,
including source-to-target checks, record counts, control totals, balance reconciliations, exception analysis, and investigation of data issues.
7. Work closely with Data Modelers, Data Engineers, Finance SMEs, Architects, and Technology teams to clarify requirements, validate data models and transformations, perform root-cause analysis, and support resolution of data issues.
8. Support Finance reporting, governance, and documentation requirements, including Financial Accounting, FP&A;, Financial Reporting, Regulatory Reporting, Management Reporting, metadata, lineage, critical data elements, data quality rules, and onboarding documentation.
Required Skills and Competencies
1. Strong data analysis experience within banking or financial services, preferably supporting Finance data platforms, Finance transformation, data integration, migration, or large-scale data programmes.
2. Strong banking and Finance domain knowledge, with experience across business areas such as Markets, Corporate Banking, Commercial Banking, Wealth Management, Private Banking, Lending, Deposits, Treasury, or Investment Products.
3. Advanced hands-on SQL skills, including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, aggregations, data profiling, reconciliation, duplicate analysis, exception identification, and investigation of large datasets.
4. Solid end-to-end data management experience, covering data sourcing, profiling, mapping, harmonisation, transformation, validation, reconciliation, data quality, lineage, metadata, governance, and reporting.
5. Experience working with large-scale modern data platforms, including technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, Hadoop, Spark, data lakes, lakehouses, or other cloud-based data platforms.
6. Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, stakeholder management, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across Finance, Business, Data Modelling, Data Engineering, Architecture, Governance, and Technology teams.
