HVAC Drafter Role Purpose: The HVAC Draftsman Design Standards QA/QC is a senior technical role responsible for building and maintaining the organizations HVAC drafting ecosystem. The position ensures that all project drawings are produced to the highest standards of technical accuracy, coordination, and constructability. The role serves three critical functions within the organization: Standards Custodian: Develop and maintain standardized HVAC drawing templates, symbols, and detail libraries used across all projects. Quality Gatekeeper: Review and approve all HVAC project drawings before submission to ensure compliance with company and industry standards. Knowledge Architect: Capture real-project learnings from site visits and convert them into structured training content and updated standards. This position directly supports the Training Development (TD) department by translating field experience and engineering knowledge into practical, reusable training materials for the wider engineering team. Responsibilities

- HVAC Drawing Standards Template Development: Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the organizations HVAC drawing template library. Develop standardized HVAC layout templates incorporating industry drafting standards and company design guidelines Create and maintain equipment layout drawing templates, plant room drawing formats, and riser diagram templates Establish schematic diagram standards, detail drawing libraries, and coordination drawing formats Develop as-built drawing format templates compliant with client and statutory requirements Standardize layer conventions, annotation styles, and drawing title blocks across all projects Build and maintain equipment block libraries and drafting symbol libraries for HVAC systems Incorporate lessons learned from previous projects into updated drawing templates




- Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) for Project Drawings: Act as the primary QA/QC reviewer for all HVAC drawings across active projects. Review all HVAC drawings prior to submission to ensure adherence to drafting standards Verify correct layer usage, annotation styles, scale consistency, and equipment tagging Ensure interdisciplinary coordination with Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Architecture, and Structural teams Check drawing clarity, system representation, correct airflow directions, and equipment schedules Identify and flag coordination conflicts and missing details before formal issue Prepare QA/QC review reports documenting findings and corrective actions Verify that standard templates are used on all project submissions
- Training Material Development: Support the TD department by creating drawing-based training content from real project experience. Convert standardized drawing templates into structured drafting training modules Prepare step-by-step drafting standards documentation for junior draftsmen Create Dos and Donts drawing examples using real project cases Develop annotated diagrams, before/after comparisons, and corrected drawing examples Compile site photographs and installation visuals to support training content Prepare coordination challenge case studies from actual project experience
- Project Drawing Standard Implementation:



Ensure consistent application of drawing standards across all active projects. Conduct project kickoff briefings for drafting teams on current drawing standards Distribute latest drawing standards documentation to all project teams Monitor compliance with drawing standards throughout the project lifecycle Conduct periodic drawing audits and provide corrective guidance Maintain a drawing standards version control register
- Site Visits Field Learning Capture: Conduct regular site visits to observe real-world execution and capture learning. Visit active project sites to inspect installed HVAC systems and identify design-execution gaps Interact with site engineers and MEP contractors to understand practical challenges Photograph installation issues, coordination conflicts, and non-conformances
- Lessons Learned Documentation: Systematically capture and integrate project learnings into organizational knowledge. Prepare structured lessons learned documentation including root cause analysis Develop corrective design improvement guidelines from site observations Update drawing standards and templates based on lessons learned Contribute to the organizational lessons learned database Present key learnings in TD training sessions
