Role & responsibilities
- Perform Neurodiagnostic Procedures: Conduct Electroencephalography (EEG), Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV), Evoked Potential (EP) studies (VEP, BAER/BERA, SSEP), and assist neurologists during Electromyography (EMG) procedures in accordance with established clinical protocols.
- Prepare and Monitor Patients: Prepare patients for neurodiagnostic investigations by explaining the procedures, ensuring informed cooperation, monitoring patient condition during testing, and maintaining patient comfort and safety throughout.
- Operate and Maintain Equipment: Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance of neurodiagnostic equipment to ensure accurate test results and uninterrupted clinical services.
- Ensure Quality of Diagnostic Recordings: Obtain high-quality neurophysiological recordings by ensuring proper electrode placement, minimizing artifacts, and adhering to standardized testing protocols.
- Maintain Clinical Documentation: Accurately document patient history, procedure details, and test findings in the Hospital Information System (HIS)/Electronic Medical Record (EMR), ensuring timely submission for interpretation by the neurologist.
- Support Advanced Neurodiagnostic Services:
Assist in specialized procedures such as Video EEG monitoring, ICU EEG monitoring, long-term EEG studies, and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (where applicable).
- Ensure Compliance with Quality and Safety Standards: Adhere to hospital policies, infection prevention and control practices, NABH/JCI standards, and departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Coordinate with Multidisciplinary Teams: Collaborate effectively with neurologists, neurosurgeons, physicians, nursing staff, emergency services, ICU teams, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
- Manage Departmental Resources: Monitor the availability of consumables, maintain equipment logs, report equipment malfunctions, and coordinate preventive maintenance with the Biomedical Engineering department.
- Contribute to Continuous Improvement: Participate in departmental audits, quality improvement initiatives, continuing education programs, clinical training, and mentor junior technologists and trainees to enhance departmental performance and patient care.
