Role & responsibilities
1. Manage the operation, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and breakdown maintenance of all mechanical engineering systems to ensure uninterrupted hospital operations.
2. Oversee the operation and maintenance of centralized HVAC systems, including Chillers, Air Handling Units (AHUs), Fresh Air Handling Units (FAHUs), cooling towers, pumps, and chilled water distribution systems.
3. Ensure HVAC systems maintain required temperature, humidity, air pressure, and indoor air quality standards in critical patient care areas such as OTs, ICUs, laboratories, and isolation rooms.
4. Plan, coordinate, and execute renovation, refurbishment, and engineering modification projects with minimal disruption to hospital services.
5. Supervise installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of new mechanical equipment and engineering systems.
6. Monitor equipment performance, analyze maintenance trends, and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve system reliability and reduce downtime.
7. Manage engineering contractors, vendors, and Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs), ensuring quality, safety, timely service delivery, and contract compliance.
8. Prepare engineering budgets, monitor maintenance and project expenditures,
and identify cost optimization and energy conservation opportunities.
9. Ensure compliance with NABH, JCI (where applicable), fire safety regulations, statutory requirements, and hospital engineering standards.
10. Maintain engineering documentation, preventive maintenance schedules, equipment history records, calibration records, and project reports.
11. Coordinate with clinical, biomedical, infection control, nursing, housekeeping, and administration teams to support uninterrupted patient care during maintenance and renovation activities.
12. Supervise engineering technicians and outsourced manpower by planning work schedules, monitoring performance, and ensuring technical competency and safety compliance.
13. Promote secure working practices by implementing permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, emergency response procedures, and occupational health and safety standards.
14. Monitor utility consumption and implement energy management initiatives to improve operational efficiency and optimize HVAC performance.
15. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for process enhancement, adopting engineering best practices, and ensuring high equipment availability and operational excellence.
