We are seeking a capable and hands-on Alteryx Developer to design, build, and maintain data preparation, transformation, and analytics workflows using Alteryx Designer. The role is responsible for delivering reliable, scalable, and well-governed data pipelines that serve reporting systems, business intelligence platforms, and enterprise data consumers. The candidate will work closely with data engineers, business analysts, and reporting teams to ensure enterprise data is clean, structured, and consistently delivered to meet business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Workflow Design & Development

- Design, build, and maintain end-to-end data workflows in Alteryx Designer covering data ingestion, cleansing, transformation, blending, and output delivery to downstream systems.

- Translate business and data requirements into efficient, reusable Alteryx workflows that meet performance, accuracy, and maintainability standards.

- Build modular, well-documented workflows following enterprise development standards, including macro development for reusable transformation logic across multiple workflows.

- Optimise workflow performance through appropriate tool selection, data volume management, in-database processing, and efficient join and aggregation strategies.

- Develop and maintain Alteryx analytic apps to enable business users to run self-service data workflows with controlled inputs and governed outputs.

Data Preparation & ETL

- Build ETL and ELT pipelines using Alteryx Designer to extract data from diverse enterprise sources including relational databases, flat files, APIs, SharePoint, and cloud storage.

- Perform data profiling and quality assessment as part of the ingestion process to identify and resolve data integrity issues before downstream consumption.

- Implement data transformation logic including deduplication, standardisation, enrichment, pivoting, and aggregation to produce clean, analytics-ready datasets.

- Ensure transformed data meets agreed business rules, field definitions, and formatting standards documented in data specifications and mapping documents.

Database & System Integration

- Connect Alteryx workflows to enterprise databases including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL using ODBC/OLEDB connections and native Alteryx database tools.

- Integrate Alteryx with cloud storage and data platforms including AWS S3 and Azure Blob Storage / ADLS for both source data ingestion and output delivery.

- Use in-database processing within Alteryx to push transformation logic directly into source databases, reducing data movement and improving performance for large datasets.

- Connect to REST APIs and web services within Alteryx workflows to retrieve or deliver data as part of broader enterprise data pipelines.

Scheduling, Automation & Monitoring

- Schedule and automate Alteryx workflows for reliable, unattended execution using Alteryx Server, ensuring workflows run at the right frequency and in the correct sequence.

- Monitor scheduled workflow runs, configure error handling and alerting, and resolve failures promptly to maintain data pipeline SLAs and business reporting timelines.

- Coordinate workflow execution dependencies to ensure data is processed in the correct order across multi-step pipelines with upstream and downstream dependencies.

- Maintain workflow run logs and produce regular status reports on pipeline health, failure rates, and data volume trends for operational visibility.

Data Quality & Governance

- Embed data quality checks, validation rules, and exception handling within Alteryx workflows to identify and isolate data issues before they reach reporting or downstream systems.

- Maintain data lineage documentation for Alteryx workflows, capturing source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, and dependency relationships to support audit and governance requirements.

- Apply data privacy and security controls within workflows, including field-level masking, row filtering, and access-controlled output delivery, in compliance with enterprise data governance policies.

- Contribute to data governance initiatives by following agreed naming conventions, metadata standards, and change management processes for all workflow development and updates.

Testing & Documentation

- Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and regression testing of Alteryx workflows to validate data accuracy, transformation logic, and output completeness before deployment to production.

- Maintain clear and complete workflow documentation including business logic descriptions, data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings,

and change logs to support handover and ongoing maintenance.

- Support user acceptance testing (UAT) with business stakeholders, incorporating feedback and resolving data discrepancies identified during testing cycles.

- Manage workflow promotion across development, test, and production environments following enterprise version control and change management practices.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

- Work closely with business analysts and data consumers to gather requirements, clarify data definitions, and validate workflow outputs against business expectations.

- Collaborate with data engineers and BI developers to ensure Alteryx pipeline outputs are correctly structured and formatted for consumption by reporting and analytics tools.

- Participate in team stand-ups, sprint planning, and backlog grooming as part of an Agile or structured delivery team.

- Contribute to shared best practices, reusable macro libraries, and workflow standards, and provide peer review for other developers' workflows within the team.

Required Qualifications

- 4-7 years of hands-on experience with Alteryx Designer, including workflow development, macro creation, analytic app development, and performance optimisation in production or near-production environments.

- Strong experience integrating Alteryx with enterprise relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle) and cloud storage platforms (AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage / ADLS).

- Solid understanding of data preparation and ETL/ELT principles including data cleansing, transformation, deduplication, and quality management within Alteryx workflows.

- Experience with in-database processing in Alteryx to optimise workflow performance against relational and cloud databases.

- Familiarity with Alteryx Server for workflow scheduling, monitoring, and user management in a governed, multi-user enterprise environment.

- Valuable working knowledge of SQL for query construction, data validation, and direct database interaction to complement Alteryx workflow development.

- Understanding of data governance principles including data lineage, data quality management, PII handling, and access-controlled outputs.

- Experience working in Agile or structured delivery teams with strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

- Alteryx Designer Core or Advanced certification is strongly preferred; Alteryx Designer Expert certification is a plus.
