Job Summary

The Typesetting QC Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and quality of typeset articles for scientific journals. The role involves reviewing formatted manuscripts against source files and journal style guidelines, identifying errors, and ensuring that all content meets publication standards before final release.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform quality checks on typeset proofs (PDF) against author-submitted manuscripts.
- Ensure adherence to journal style guidelines, formatting rules, and publishing standards.
- Verify correctness of:
- Text formatting (headings, paragraphs, fonts, spacing)
- Figures, tables, and captions
- Mathematical equations and chemical structures
- References and citations

- Check consistency in:

- Units, symbols, and abbreviations
- Chemical nomenclature and formatting

- Identify and correct:

- Typesetting errors
- Layout inconsistencies
- Missing or misplaced content

- Review author corrections and ensure they are implemented accurately.
- Coordinate with typesetters, editors, and production teams to resolve issues.
- Ensure timely completion of QC tasks within defined turnaround times.




- Maintain documentation of QC processes and error logs.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Science (Chemistry preferred), Publishing, or related field.
- Robust understanding of scientific content, especially chemistry-related material.
- Familiarity with journal publishing workflows and standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills.
- Knowledge of:
- XML/HTML basics (preferred)
- Typesetting tools (e.g., LaTeX, InDesign, or similar platforms)

- Ability to interpret and apply style guides.
- Good communication and coordination skills.

Preferred Experience

- Prior experience in scientific typesetting or QC for STM (Scientific, Technical, Medical) journals.
- Experience working with chemistry-focused content or publishers like RSC.
- Understanding of digital publishing formats (PDF, HTML, XML).
