Key Responsibilities

- Monitor firewall infrastructure and security devices for availability, performance, and alerts.
- Provide Level 1 support for firewall-related incidents, service requests, and user access issues.
- Perform basic troubleshooting for firewall, VPN, NAT, ACL, and connectivity-related issues.
- Analyze logs and alerts generated by firewalls and security monitoring tools.
- Create, modify, and remove firewall rules as per approved change requests and standard procedures.
- Escalate unresolved or critical incidents to L2/L3 support teams within defined SLA timelines.
- Document incidents, troubleshooting steps, root causes, and resolutions in the ticketing system.
- Support routine operational activities such as device health checks, backup verification, and policy review.
- Participate in shift-based support, including 24x7 operations if required.




- Ensure compliance with security policies, change management processes, and operational procedures.
- Coordinate with network, server, security, and application teams to resolve connectivity/security issues.
- Assist in implementing standard firewall configurations and policy updates under supervision.

Required Technical Skills:

Basic understanding of networking concepts:

TCP/IP

OSI model

VLANs

Routing & Switching

DNS / DHCP

VPN

NAT / PAT

ACLs

Basic knowledge/ Hands on firewall technologies and security concepts.

Familiarity with one or more firewall platforms such as:

Palo Alto

Fortinet

Cisco ASA / Firepower

Check Point

Knowledge of incident/ticketing tools such as ServiceNow, Remedy, or Jira.

Basic understanding of log analysis and event monitoring tools.

Exposure to SIEM tools is an added advantage.

Understanding of change management and ITIL-based support processes.

Relevant certifications are an advantage:

CCNA

Network+

Security+

NSE / PCNSA / CCSA (preferred but not mandatory)

Required Soft Skills

- Good troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work in a quick-paced operations environment.
- Willingness to work in rotational shifts / weekend support if needed.
- Good documentation and ticket handling discipline.

Roles & Responsibilities in Daily Operations

- Check pending firewall incidents and service requests in the queue.
- Monitor dashboards for device down alerts, traffic anomalies, and security events.
- Resolve standard requests such as:
- URL allow/block requests
- Firewall rule enable/disable
- Basic VPN support
- Access troubleshooting
- Validate connectivity using ping, traceroute, logs, and policy checks.
- Follow SOPs/runbooks for common firewall issues.
- Update tickets with action taken and communicate status to stakeholders.
- Escalate policy conflicts, hardware issues, firmware issues, or complex traffic drops to senior engineers.
