Long-Term Contract (Hybrid Opportunity)
Role Purpose
The x86 Infrastructure Engineer will provide specialist engineering resource to support and extend the CLIENT x86 Server SME function.
The successful candidate will take direction from the SME, independently develop technical solutions, produce rigorous documentation, and work collaboratively across engineering and automation teams to deliver solutions into a global production environment.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role requiring deep technical knowledge of enterprise x86 server hardware, server management technologies, storage connectivity, and infrastructure automation frameworks.
The role operates at enterprise scale and demands the ability to apply engineering rigour, think through complex multi-vendor problems, and deliver production-quality outcomes with minimal supervision.

Hardware Standards & Certification
- Support the development and maintenance of CLIENT x86 server hardware standards across Dell, HPE, and Lenovo OEM platforms.
- Contribute to hardware certification programmes, including design and execution of structured test plans covering firmware, BIOS, BMC, storage, network, and OS compatibility.
- Evaluate new server platforms, components, and peripheral devices against defined CLIENT technical requirements and produce detailed certification findings documentation.
- Maintain standards documentation including platform configuration baselines, supported component matrices, and firmware version control records.
Server Console & BMC Standards
- Support the definition and implementation of CLIENT server console standards across iDRAC9/10 (Dell), iLO 4/5/7 (HPE), and XClarity Controller 2 / XCC2 / XCC3 (Lenovo).
- Document and implement BMC role-based access control (RBAC) configurations, Active Directory integration, Redfish API access policies, and CLI access procedures.
- Develop and maintain BMC security configuration guides covering authentication, account management, network interface hardening,
audit logging, and call home configurations.
- Work with the SME to define and document console access patterns for both in-band and out-of-band management.
Automation Frameworks & Tooling
- Design, Develop, test, and document automation solutions using CLIENT infrastructure automation frameworks such as Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent tools as directed by the SME.
- Integrate with OEM management APIs including Dell Redfish (iDRAC), HPE Redfish (iLO), and Lenovo XCC2 Redfish endpoints to deliver automated configuration, compliance checking, and remediation workflows.
- Integrate with OEM management Frameworks including Dell OME and Lenovo XClarity endpoints to deliver automated configuration, compliance checking, and remediation workflows where appropriate.
- Design / Produce integration scripts and playbooks that can be consumed by CLIENT automation and operations teams for production use.
- Engage with CLIENT's internal automation engineering teams to align solution design with existing automation platforms and delivery pipelines, and to hand over designs / solutions for operational adoption.
Storage Connectivity
- Support local storage configuration including NVMe, SAS, and SATA technologies across U.2, E3.S, and 2.5"/3.5" form factors.
- Maintain storage connectivity standards documentation and contribute to certification test plans covering storage attachment scenarios.
- Configure and troubleshoot IP-based storage connectivity including iSCSI initiator configuration, multipath I/O (MPIO), and network interface binding.
- Configure and troubleshoot Fibre Channel (FC) storage connectivity including HBA zoning, WWN management, fabric login procedures, and LUN masking.
Networking
- Apply and validate network configuration standards including bonding/teaming, VLAN tagging, MTU configuration, and SR-IOV setup.
- Support NIC firmware and driver certification as part of broader server hardware certification activities.
- Understand network architecture requirements for x86 Server Console interfaces (iDRAC,iLO,XCC)
- Understand network architecture requirements for Windows, ESXi, Linux and Red Hat OpenShift node connectivity
- Configure and troubleshoot server network interfaces including 1GbE, 10GbE, 25GbE, and 100GbE adapters across Broadcom and Intel platforms.
OEM Management Tools
- Operate and administer Dell OpenManage Enterprise (OME) for fleet inventory, firmware lifecycle management, and alerting.
- Operate and administer Lenovo XClarity Administrator (LXCA) / Lenovo Clarity for BMC management, policy enforcement, and configuration deployment.
- Operate and administer HPE iLO Amplifier Pack, HPE OneView, or equivalent HPE fleet management tooling.
- Contribute to the integration of OEM tooling with CLIENT monitoring and ITSM platforms.
Monitoring & Call Home Technologies
- Configure and validate server call home technologies including Dell SupportAssist,
HPE Insight Remote Support, and Lenovo call home mechanisms.
- Integrate server health and alerting data into CLIENT monitoring platforms in line with standards defined by the SME.
- Contribute to the definition of alert thresholds, escalation paths, and automated remediation actions for server hardware events.
Operating System Environments
- Support server OS deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting across Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and Red Hat OpenShift.
- Understand OpenShift Virtualization node requirements and support the certification of server platforms for use in OpenShift compute node roles.
- Contribute to OS configuration baseline documentation and kickstart/ignition configuration templates.
Documentation & Operational Guidance
- Produce high-quality technical documentation including standards documents, process and procedure guides, configuration guides, run-books, and operational reference materials.
- Translate complex technical solutions into clear, unambiguous operational guidance suitable for consumption by operations teams with varying levels of server expertise.
- Maintain version-controlled documentation repositories in line with CLIENT document management standards.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 5 years of enterprise x86 server engineering experience in a large-scale environment.
- Deep hands-on knowledge of at least two of the three major OEM platforms: Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant , or Lenovo ThinkSystem .
- Proficiency with BMC/server management interfaces: Dell iDRAC9/10, HPE iLO 4/5/7, and/or Lenovo XCC2/XCC3, including Redfish API usage.
- Practical experience configuring IP-based storage (iSCSI, NFS) and FC storage (HBA, zoning, multipath) on enterprise x86 servers.
- Hands-on experience with local storage technologies including NVMe SSDs, SAS arrays, and RAID configuration in enterprise server contexts.
- Working knowledge of enterprise server networking: adapter types, bonding/teaming, VLANs, MPIO, and SR-IOV.
- Experience with at least one infrastructure automation framework (Ansible strongly preferred) and scripting in Python or Bash.
- Experience with Redfish API integration for automated BMC configuration, data collection, or firmware management.
- Ability to work independently, derive a solution approach from high-level direction, and deliver to a defined quality standard.
- Strong written English with a demonstrable ability to produce transparent, structured technical documentation.
Highly Desirable
- Experience operating Dell OpenManage Enterprise (OME), Lenovo XClarity Administrator, or HPE OneView / iLO Amplifier at enterprise fleet scale.
- Red Hat OpenShift or OpenShift Virtualization node configuration and certification experience.
- Experience configuring server call home and remote support mechanisms across Dell, HPE, and/or Lenovo platforms.
- Familiarity with CLIENT or equivalent Tier 1 financial services infrastructure governance, change management, and risk frameworks.
- Experience working in a managed service or staff augmentation model, operating within a client organisation's processes and standards.
- Knowledge of GPU server platforms (e.g. Dell XE9680) and accelerated compute certification.
