About the role

The School Librarian is responsible for managing the school library, supporting the educational program by providing resources and instructional support, and fostering an environment that encourages reading and learning among students.

What you will be doing

Oversee the daily operations of the school library.
• Maintain and organize the library collection, including books, periodicals, digital resources, and multimedia.
• Develop and implement library policies and procedures.
• Ensure the library is a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all students and staff.
• Select, purchase, and catalogue current library materials based on curriculum needs and student interests.
• Manage the library budget and keep accurate records of expenditures.
• Conduct regular inventory of library resources and manage the circulation system.




• Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum.
• Provide instruction in information literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship.
• Conduct library orientations and training sessions for students and staff.
• Assist students and staff in locating and using library resources effectively.
• Plan and implement library programs and activities that promote reading and literacy.
• Organize book fairs, author visits, reading challenges, and other events.
• Promote library services and resources through newsletters, social media, and other channels.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and integrate them into the library program.
• Manage and troubleshoot library technology, including computers, tablets, and online databases.
• Provide support and training for students and staff on the use of digital resources.
• Foster relationships with parents, community members, and local organizations to support library programs.
• Coordinate with public libraries and other educational institutions to enhance resources and services.

Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in library science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an accredited
program.
- Valid state certification as a school librarian.
- Previous experience working in a school library or educational setting is preferred.
