Position Summary

The Senior BusinessObjects Developer is the technical owner of the SAP BusinessObjects (BoBJ) reporting environment This role ensures continuity, reliability, and lifecycle management of BoBJ assets including Web Intelligence reports, universes, Crystal Reports, and scheduled publications that support clinical, financial, operational, and health plan stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Technical Ownership

- Own design, development, and maintenance of SAP BusinessObjects reports including Web Intelligence (WebI), Crystal Reports, and Dashboards/Lumira
- Build and manage BoBJ universes using Information Design Tool (IDT) and Universe Design Tool (UDT), including complex joins, derived tables, and business layer objects
- Optimize report and universe performance — query execution, data provider tuning, and object-level caching strategies
- Lead L2/L3 escalations for complex BoBJ incidents including report failures, universe corruption, scheduling errors, and CMC access issues
- Perform peer reviews of report logic, universe design, and CMC configurations to ensure quality and consistency across the BoBJ environment

Operations & Production Support

- Manage BoBJ Central Management Console (CMC) — user accounts, groups, access levels, folder structures
- Administer and monitor scheduled report jobs, publication workflows, and distribution lists, ensuring reliable execution within SLA windows




- Support Dev/QA/Prod environment management including release coordination, transport management, and production readiness validation
- Proactively monitor BoBJ setting health — server status, scheduled job failures, and performance degradation — and resolve issues within defined SLAs
- Execute manual extract modifications and report distribution requests while driving standardization and automation to reduce recurring manual work

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

- Engage directly with business stakeholders across PHP, PDS/PMG, Quality, and System Services to gather requirements and deliver BoBJ solutions
- Translate complex business reporting needs into scalable universe objects, report structures, and self-service-ready data layers
- Communicate backlog status, delivery timelines, and capacity constraints proactively to stakeholders and the Delivery Manager
- Coordinate with data pipeline and DB2/SQL Server teams to resolve upstream data issues impacting BoBJ universes and reports

Knowledge Management & Lifecycle Planning

- Maintain comprehensive documentation — universe design specs, report catalogues, runbooks, CMC configuration guides, and operational playbooks
- Lead rationalization efforts to identify BoBJ reports and universes that are candidates for consolidation, retirement, or migration to Tableau




- Support transition planning as PHS evolves the analytics platform, ensuring continuity and zero data loss during any migration activities
- Track and manage all work through ServiceNow ensuring accurate classification, SLA compliance, and backlog transparency

Required Qualifications

- 6+ years of hands-on SAP BusinessObjects development — Web Intelligence, IDT/UDT universe design, Crystal Reports, and CMC administration
- Advanced SQL proficiency in IBM DB2 and/or SQL Server for universe design, derived tables, and custom query development
- Experience managing BoBJ scheduling, publication workflows, and multi-tier environment operations (Dev/QA/Prod)
- Strong troubleshooting skills across report, universe, data, and infrastructure layers of the BoBJ stack
- Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders, gather requirements, and deliver reporting solutions independently in regulated environments
- Experience with ITSM platforms (ServiceNow or equivalent) for ticket management, backlog tracking, and SLA reporting

Preferred Qualifications

- Healthcare analytics experience — health plan reporting, clinical quality metrics, hospital operations, or regulatory/compliance reporting
- AWS familiarity — understanding of cloud-hosted BoBJ environments and data connectivity from AWS RDS or Redshift
- Tableau experience as a secondary BI skill, supporting cross-platform migration or parallel delivery
- SAP BusinessObjects certification (e.g., C_BOWI_43, C_BOWI_4I or equivalent)
- Experience contributing to BI platform rationalization or migration projects (BoBJ to Tableau or similar)
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements for report access, PHI data handling, and audit trail management
