Windows & Linux Infrastructure Engineer L2

Role Objective
Provide Level 2 server operations support across Windows and Linux environments with focus on patching coordination, monitoring response, operational tasks, backup validation support, incident troubleshooting and service continuity. The role must ensure disciplined execution of BAU tasks with clear evidence, change adherence and timely escalation.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor Windows and Linux server alerts and perform Level 2 triage for CPU, memory, disk, service availability, patch failures and login/connectivity issues.
- Coordinate and execute approved patching activities for Windows and Linux servers as per patch calendar, maintenance window, change record and rollback plan.
- Perform pre-patch and post-patch validation including server availability, key service checks, application owner confirmation, patch status reporting and exception capture.
- Support server operations tasks including service restarts, log review, disk cleanup coordination, file system checks, scheduled job validation and basic performance investigation.
- Coordinate with backup team for backup success/failure validation, restore request routing and evidence collection where required.
- Support vulnerability remediation coordination by validating patch applicability, server ownership, maintenance window and risk/exception status.
- Maintain server inventory hygiene,
operational runbooks, patch trackers, exception registers and handover notes.
- Escalate complex OS, kernel, cluster, virtualization, storage or application-impacting issues to L3 with transparent problem statement and diagnostics.
Required Technical Skills
- Good working knowledge of Windows Server operations, services, event logs, disk management, scheduled tasks and basic PowerShell commands.
- Good working knowledge of Linux operations including systemd services, file systems, logs, package managers, permissions and basic shell commands.
- Hands-on experience in monthly patching cycles, patch validation, failed patch troubleshooting and exception tracking.
- Understanding of VMware/cloud hosted server operations, monitoring alerts, backup dependency and change management practices.
- Ability to prepare patch status reports, issue logs, rollback notes, downtime communication and evidence packs.
- Familiarity with ITIL incident, change, problem and configuration management processes.
Qualification and Experience
- Graduate degree/diploma in IT, Computer Science or equivalent technical experience.
- 5 to 7 years of server operations experience across Windows and/or Linux environments.
- Certifications such as Microsoft, Linux+, RHCSA, Azure/AWS foundation, ITIL Foundation or equivalent exposure are preferred.
- Must be comfortable working in planned maintenance windows and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
