Job Description:
Technical :
1. To study the project brief in detail and suggest changes as per the client’s requirements in coordination with the project design and project management teams.
2. To agree upon the control philosophy of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system and prepare a concept document for the same.
3. To support the project design team in working on area zoning, Air Handling Unit (AHU) zoning, temperature, and Relative Humidity (RH) requirements for client approval.
4. To gather data from various departments, namely projects, process, utility, and electrical, for heat load estimation in the assigned projects.
5. To supervise and analyse the heat load calculations and support the reporting engineers in completing the task with the required accuracy.
6. To review, verify, and approve utility calculations required for HVAC.
7. To thoroughly review the heat load calculations, identify any major or minor issues related to client or project team considerations, and discuss changes as required.
8. To finalise and approve the heat load calculations for the facility before proceeding with HVAC equipment calculations.
9. To support and supervise the equipment calculations based on heat load and space programming for the project. This might involve equipment such as, but not limited to, AHUs, cooling and heating coils, ducting, dampers, filter boxes, grilles, diffusers, risers, etc.
10. To review and guide duct calculations and duct routing drawings.
11. To verify all HVAC equipment sizing and load calculations before allowing to proceed to the Bill of Quantities (BOQs).
12. To support, supervise, and check the BOQ prepared by the team members in detail before sending it for further approval to the project team and finally to the client.
13. To assist in developing and maintaining a technical and commercial database for HVAC equipment.
14. To update the database on a regular basis to reduce the time required for designing.
15. To review and approve equipment technical specifications before submitting them to the project team and client.
16. To prepare technical and commercial comparative statements for equipment selection and coordinate with the purchase department for vendor finalization and procurement.
17. To verify the design, BOQ, and equipment list before proceeding with detail engineering. This may involve checking the heat load calculations again based on actual loads.
18. To supervise the preparation and coordination of the Reflected Ceiling Plan (RCP) with the project design team and other departments for the generation of final drawings.
19. To supervise and approve all the drawings and details received from vendors for all HVAC components for further processing and manufacturing.
20. To assist in and organise the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of HVAC equipment on a regular basis with the HVAC team in coordination with the purchase and project management departments.
21. To supervise, verify, and approve all detail engineering contract drawings to be executed at the site, referred to as the “construction drawings release.”
22. To assist the purchase team and project management team, where needed,
for effective decision-making regarding placing orders for HVAC equipment and site labour contracts with scope details.
23. To attend the site meetings for HVAC-related work, proactively identify possible issues, develop mitigation plans, and ensure timely resolution of site-related issues, including duct routing conflicts, equipment placement issues, construction drawing discrepancies, and sizing-related issues.
24. To supervise the updating of the design and drawings on a regular basis to keep the design data up to date as per site conditions and changes.
25. To work in coordination with the Documentation, Qualification, Validation, and Commission (DQVC) team and the HVAC team to ensure project documentation is prepared and maintained as per the project requirements.
26. To assist the DQVC team in document collection and removing bottlenecks in the documentation process.
27. To supervise the preparation of as-built drawings in coordination with the site team and ensure the updated drawings are maintained in the system.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
1. To prepare a work plan and work hour list for all new projects allotted to the HVAC department.
2. To update the plan and work hour list on a regular basis and get the same approved by the project team and seniors.
3. To work on forecasting and scheduling based on current workload and team strength in terms of man-hours and capability.
4. To guide the management on possible issues related to workload management, resource planning, and technical capacities and develop mitigation plans accordingly.
5. To assign workloads to team members as per project requirements and timelines.
6. To coordinate with the Project Management Department for client queries and the submission of documents.
7. To check and approve the work of subordinates and colleagues for accurate submission of documents required for purchases, client approvals, construction at sites, etc.
8. To control and monitor the work-hour reports of each team member and take corrective actions based on the discrepancies identified.
9. To improve team efficiency and productivity and continuously optimize man-hour utilization for project deliverables.
10. To resolve technical and team-related concerns of team members as and when required.
11. To maintain amicable working relationships among team members to ensure better productivity.
12. To resolve technical and administrative issues as per project and departmental requirements.
13. To prepare and monitor Key Result Areas (KRAs) for team members and update them on a regular basis.
14. To be responsible for identifying the training needs of the HVAC team and creating and updating the training calendar on a regular basis.
15. To monitor progress against one's own KRAs and review the same regularly with the reporting manager (RM) to achieve departmental objectives.

To ensure that all the department reports are updated and submitted within the agreed timelines.
17. To ensure that all internal and external documents are properly maintained and available in the Document Management System (DMS) as per project requirements and document control procedures.
18. To approve the work submitted by team members.
19. To approve the leaves of team members.
20. To provide inputs on team members’ overall performance during their performance appraisals and salary increment recommendations.
21. To assist in the department’s manpower planning and hiring process.
Skills and Competencies:
1. Ability to design HVAC systems independently, including heat load calculation, HVAC classification, AHU zoning, duct design and layout, AHU fan and coil selection based on heat load, and BOQ generation.
2. Ability to lead and coordinate HVAC and cleanroom engineering teams.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
4. Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills with a high level of ownership and accountability.
5. Capability to prepare and review Technical Specifications (TS) and Datasheets (DS) for HVAC and cleanroom systems.
6. Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and the ability to independently review engineering drawings.
7. Fluent in written and spoken English and Hindi.
8. Self-motivated and target-oriented.
9. Strong documentation, reporting, and technical writing skills.
10. Positive negotiation and vendor management skills.
11. Ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

Knowledge:
1. Comprehensive knowledge of conceptual design, basic engineering, and detailed engineering of HVAC systems for industrial projects.
2. Familiarity with American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) guidelines for HVAC and International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) guidelines for cleanrooms.
3. Good knowledge of HVAC equipment selection and system design for pharmaceutical projects.
4. Good knowledge of HVAC equipment, system configurations, and available technology options.
5. Familiarity with cleanroom systems and various modular partition systems.
6. Good knowledge of BOQ preparation and estimation for HVAC and cleanroom systems.
7. Strong knowledge of HVAC equipment manufacturers, vendors, and market offerings.
8. Good knowledge of safety codes and regulatory standards.
9. Good understanding of the project execution lifecycle from concept design through commissioning and project handover.
10. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), and cleanroom compliance requirements for pharmaceutical facilities.
Preferred Knowledge:
1. Preferably visited project sites at different stages for monitoring progress.
2. Experience in pharmaceutical engineering projects would be an added advantage.
3. Preferably have experience in cleanroom validation activities such as airflow visualization, pressure balancing, and qualification support.
