Job Summary
The Associate Consultant Medical Oncology is responsible for providing comprehensive, evidence-based medical oncology care to patients diagnosed with solid tumors and hematological malignancies. The role involves evaluating patients, formulating treatment plans, administering systemic therapies, managing treatment-related complications, participating in multidisciplinary tumor boards, and ensuring high standards of patient care while adhering to hospital protocols and national/international oncology guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Evaluate and diagnose patients with various types of cancers.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical assessment, staging, and evidence-based guidelines.
- Administer and supervise chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormonal therapy, and supportive care.
- Monitor treatment response and modify treatment protocols as clinically indicated.
- Manage oncological emergencies and chemotherapy-related complications.
- Coordinate inpatient and outpatient oncology services.
- Provide pre-treatment counselling to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, benefits, risks, and expected outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the Hospital Information System (HIS).
Multidisciplinary Care
- Participate actively in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings.
- Collaborate with Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pathology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Palliative Care,
and other specialties for integrated patient management.
- Coordinate referrals and follow-up care for oncology patients.
Quality & Patient Safety
- Adhere to NABH, NMC, and hospital quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with chemotherapy safety protocols and infection prevention guidelines.
- Report clinical incidents and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Promote secure medication practices and patient safety measures.
Academic & Research
- Participate in CMEs, departmental academic sessions, journal clubs, and case discussions.
- Assist in clinical research, audits, publications, and oncology registries where applicable.
- Keep updated with the latest developments in oncology treatment protocols and clinical guidelines.
Patient & Family Education
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding disease progression, treatment plans, side effects, nutritional support, and follow-up care.
- Provide compassionate counselling while maintaining patient confidentiality.
