BOQ Engineer / Quantity Surveyor
Role Overview:
The BOQ Engineer is responsible for preparing detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for all construction activities including civil, structural, architectural, finishing and MEP works. The role involves quantity take-offs from drawings, cost estimation, coordination with consultants and project teams, and supporting tendering and billing processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. BOQ Preparation
Prepare detailed BOQ for all project components including:
Earthwork and excavation
Foundation works
RCC works
Masonry works
Plastering works
Flooring and tiling works
Waterproofing works
Structural steel works
Doors, windows and aluminum works
Painting works
Interior finishing works
External development works
MEP works (Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, HVAC)
Prepare item-wise quantities based on architectural, structural and MEP drawings.
2. Quantity Take-Off
Perform accurate quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.
Verify quantities with drawings and site conditions.
Maintain detailed quantity calculation sheets for all items.
3. Cost Estimation
Prepare rate analysis for all BOQ items.
Estimate project costs including:
Material cost
Labour cost
Machinery cost
Subcontractor cost
Prepare project budget and cost comparison reports.
4. Tender Documentation
Prepare tender BOQ for contractor bidding.
Assist in floating tenders and evaluating contractor quotations.
Prepare comparative statements for received quotations.
5. Coordination
Coordinate with:
Architects
Structural consultants
MEP consultants
Project management team
Site engineers
Procurement department
Ensure BOQ matches with latest drawings and revisions.
6. Contract & Billing Support
Support preparation of work orders and contractor agreements.
Verify contractor RA bills based on executed quantities.
Maintain quantity tracking and variation statements.
7. Project Monitoring
Track material consumption vs BOQ quantities.
Identify variations and additional works.
Maintain updated BOQ with revisions.
8. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain proper records of:
BOQ documents
Quantity calculations
Tender documents
Cost estimates
Submit periodic reports to management on project cost status.
Required Skills
Solid knowledge of construction drawings and specifications
Expertise in BOQ preparation and quantity surveying
Good knowledge of construction materials and methods
Experience in rate analysis and cost estimation
Proficiency in:
Excel
AutoCAD
BOQ/Estimation software
