Job Summary

Responsible for managing cutting tools inventory, issuing and receiving tools, monitoring resharpening cycles, maintaining FIFO inventory system, and improving tool life and material usage knowledge to support productive manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Tools Issue & Return Management

Issue cutting tools such as drill bits, inserts, end mills, taps, and reamers to production as per requirement.

Maintain tool issue register / Tool Pulse Software entry for traceability.

Receive used tools from production and check condition.

Segregate tools for resharpening, regrinding, or scrap.

2. Resharpening & Tool Reconditioning Control

Identify tools suitable for resharpening / regrinding.

Maintain resharpening cycle records for each tool.

Send tools to resharpening vendor as per standard Procedure.

Track number of resharpening cycles and remaining tool life.

Ensure proper quality inspection after resharpening before reissue.

3. Inventory Management (FIFO System)

Maintain FIFO (First in First Out) method for all tools.

Monitor minimum stock level / reorder level.

Maintain tool stock register and inventory accuracy.

Conduct periodic inventory audits.

4. Tool Life Monitoring

Monitor tool consumption and tool life in production machines.

Record tool performance and usage cycles.





Analyse tool wear patterns and suggest improvements.

Coordinate with production to optimize tool life and reduce cost.

5. Material & Tool Knowledge Improvement

Develop knowledge on cutting tool materials (Carbide, HSS, Ceramic, CBN etc.).

Understand insert grades and applications for different materials (steel, aluminium, cast iron).

Coordinate with tool suppliers for technical training and improvements.

6. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain records for:

Tool issue & return

Tool life data

Resharpening history

Tool inventory

Prepare monthly tool consumption and cost reports.

7. Continuous Improvement Activities

Implement tool cost reduction initiatives.

Suggest alternate tools or cutting parameters for better productivity.

Support 5S activities in tool crib/store.

Participate in Kaizen and process improvement projects.

Required Skills

Knowledge of cutting tools and machining process.

Understanding of tool life and wear mechanisms.

Inventory management and FIFO system knowledge.

Basic SAP / Excel knowledge.

Problem-solving and analytical skills.

Qualification

Diploma / BE in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience 26 years’ experience in manufacturing / tool crib / machining environment.
