In banking, collections are services through which a bank collects money on behalf of a customer from another party. Collections are commonly used in trade finance, cheque clearing, and recovery of overdue loans.

The main types include:

1. International (Documentary) Collections
- Used in import and export transactions.
- The bank collects payment against trade documents.
- Common methods:
- Documents are released only after payment.
- Documents are released after the buyer accepts a time draft.
2. Only financial documents (such as cheques or bills of exchange) are sent for collection.
3. No shipping or commercial documents are involved.
4. The bank sends documents or instruments to another bank to collect payment on behalf of its customer.

The bank receives documents or instruments from another bank and collects payment from its customer before remitting the proceeds.

Typical responsibilities include:

- Contacting customers regarding overdue payments.
- Explaining outstanding balances, due dates, and payment options.
- Negotiating repayment plans when appropriate.
- Processing payments or directing customers to payment channels.
- Updating customer records in the CRM or collections system.
- Following client policies and applicable regulations.
- Escalating disputed accounts or complex cases.
