Job Profile Welding Supervisor Proto Shop

Qualifications Required Must Have

Degree/Diploma in Welding Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 5 ~ 7 years of experience.

Welding Coordinator/Supervisor should be a personnel with basic technical knowledge, where the level of technical knowledge needs to be sufficient for the planning, executing, supervising and testing of the tasks and responsibilities involving welded constructions.

The Roles and Responsibilities of a Welding Coordinator/Supervisor involves the following:

- Understand the drawing, requirements & product standard to be used, together with any supplementary/customer requirements.
- Review the location, accessibility, and sequence of welds, including accessibility for inspection and non-destructive testing.
- Review the drawings, weld profile the dimensions and details of joint preparation and completed weld.
- Prepare weld qualification matrix, weld plan, welder list, skill matrix and prepare the weld trial material requirement.
- Closely work with the sourcing team to organise necessary raw material & consumables required for trails and proto builds.
- Plan the weld trial as per the weld qualification matrix.
- Handling & maintenance of welding cell Automatic and manual stations.
- Robotic weld programming, touch up, parameter setting, basic maintenance & troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with 3rd party for NDT and Mechanical testing.
- Maintain the documentation WDS,



Test results, WPS. PQR and welder certifications.
- Get the WPS/PQR approval from the Welding Engineer
- Authorize work instructions, the issuing and use of work instructions on the shop floor.
- Select suitable welding and associated equipment/facility required to produce the parts.
- Confirm suitable arrangement for preheating and post-heat treatment, including temperature indicators.
- Coordinate with sub-contractor for welding fabrication, if required.
- Ensure personal protective equipment and other safety equipment applicable for the manufacturing process.
- Verify the compatibility, delivery conditions, welding consumable inspection document, the storage and handling of welding consumables.
- In process surveillance and process compliance with the approved procedures.
- Recommend the necessary measures and actions with regard to non-conformance and corrective actions (e.g. weld repairs, re-assessment of repaired welds, corrective actions)
- The preparation and maintenance of the necessary quality records (including subcontracted activities)
- Conduct root cause analysis and recommend the corrective actions in case of weld failures.
- Communicate the progress and status to supervisor, KAM, project manager and Welding Engineer on regular basis.
- Contribute in continuous improvement in quality, productivity & cost reduction drives.
