Skillset & Expertise Level
- 3-8yrs of relevant experience
- Expertise on MAC scheduling algorithms for eNB (LTE), gNB (5G), including their design, development, optimization, and debugging.
- Proficiency in MAC, RLC, PDCP for design and implementation for LTE and NR, including segmentation/reassembly, retransmission, flow control, packet splitting/ duplication, ciphering/integrity interaction points, , QoS.
- Understanding of L2 implications of TDD vs FDD timing for duplex-driven HARQ and scheduler timing, uplink grant strategies, DRX interactions, buffer status behavior, logical channel prioritization.
- Experience in optimization for latency, retransmission efficiency, throughput, fairness, DRX/power-saving behavior, QoS flow to radio bearer mapping
- Grasp of L2 interfaces with L1 (Physical Layer) and L3, 3GPP RAN split architectural options
- Programming: C/C++/ Python Programming Language, memory pooling, Programming & Debugging state machine design, error handling, traceability, and robust interoperability engineering across different UE/chipset/core/network-vendor combinations, ASN.1/protocol decode workflows
- Log Analysis: Proficiency in analyzing system logs to diagnose issues.
- Specialized Tools: Expertise in using tools like QCAT (UE logs) Viavi (network testing and measurement equipment) plus IxLoad Wireless, IxNetwork, Spirent Landslide, Wireshark.
- Understanding of FPGA/SoC-based radio acceleration, SmartNIC/DPU-assisted data paths, DPDK/hugepages/SR-IOV, Linux performance tuning for virtualized DU/CU implementations, x86/ARM servers deployment, diagnosis of KPI loss using L2 traces, PCAPs, timing logs, and RF test outputs using protocol decodes, and traffic emulators L2 software development experience
- Additional years of driving delivery of 4G/5G L2 programs
Roles & Responsibilities
- Systems Engineering, design, architecture, coding, debugging and implementation, feature scalability from a broader system-level perspective for 4G/5G L2 - FDD and TDD
- Review and Mentor high performance L1 teams towards delivery excellence in the following PDCP/RLC/MAC layer development on various platforms and integrations with L1 and L3, OAM etc for high performance basestations
- Ability to drive large scale 4G/5G L2 product development, sustenance and customer support programs involving multiple variants of eNodeBs/gNodeBs in various forms including vRAN/ORAN/custom
- Ability to communicate with senior levels of internal and external stakeholders
