The business specializes in refurbishment, overhaul, and lifecycle enhancement of Caterpillar (CAT) Excavators and heavy equipment through structured workshop operations, diagnostics, and component-level rebuilding.

Role Overview

The Head – Workshop & Refurbishment Operations will be responsible for managing end-to-end refurbishment, rebuilding, maintenance, and workshop operations for CAT Excavators and heavy construction equipment.

The role requires deep technical expertise in CAT Excavator systems including Diesel Engines, Hydraulic Systems, Main Pumps, Swing Motors, Travel Motors, Hydraulic Circuits, Powertrain Systems, and Machine Diagnostics.

The candidate should have strong hands-on experience in troubleshooting, overhauling, and maintaining CAT Excavators, especially hydraulic and engine systems, along with expertise in workshop operations, machine inspection, refurbishment planning, spare parts coordination, and quality control.

The ideal candidate should be capable of independently diagnosing machine failures, leading refurbishment teams, ensuring machine reliability, and delivering high-quality rebuilt machines within committed timelines.

Key Responsibilities

1. Workshop & Refurbishment Operations

- Lead complete refurbishment, rebuilding, and servicing operations of CAT Excavators and heavy construction equipment.
- Manage workshop schedules for machine inspection, dismantling, repair, assembly, testing, repainting, and dispatch.
- Ensure timely turnaround of machines while maintaining high refurbishment quality standards.
- Supervise complete machine restoration activities including structural, hydraulic, engine, and mechanical repairs.
- Monitor workshop productivity, machine completion timelines, and operational efficiency.

CAT Excavator Engine & Hydraulic Systems Expertise

- Diagnose and troubleshoot CAT Excavator hydraulic and engine-related failures.
- Lead overhaul and rebuilding of diesel engines, hydraulic pumps, swing motors, travel motors, control valves, and hydraulic cylinders.
- Perform root cause analysis for breakdowns, low hydraulic pressure, overheating, engine failures, hydraulic leakages, and machine performance issues.
- Ensure proper testing and calibration of hydraulic systems after refurbishment.
- Evaluate hydraulic circuits, pilot systems, pumps, actuators, and transmission systems for machine performance optimization.

- Ensure proper maintenance and repair of CAT Excavator systems including:
- Hydraulic Pumps
- Main Control Valves
- Swing Motors
- Travel Motors
- Boom/Arm/Bucket Cylinders
- Diesel Engines
- Fuel Injection Systems
- Cooling Systems
- Powertrain & Transmission Systems
- Electrical & Diagnostic Systems

3. Technical Inspection & Machine Diagnostics

- Conduct detailed technical inspection and condition assessment of used CAT Excavators and heavy equipment.
- Prepare refurbishment scope, repair estimates, and machine evaluation reports.
- Identify component failures, wear patterns, and replacement requirements.
- Use diagnostic tools and machine testing methods to evaluate machine health and performance.
- Ensure final quality inspection and performance testing before customer delivery.

4. Spare Parts & Vendor Coordination

- Coordinate with OEMs, vendors, rebuilders, and spare parts suppliers for timely procurement of components.
- Ensure availability of critical hydraulic, engine, and mechanical spare parts.
- Develop robust vendor network for CAT Excavator components and consumables.
- Monitor spare parts consumption, inventory control, and refurbishment cost optimization.
- Ensure proper tracking of rebuilt and replacement components.

5. Team & Workshop Management





- Lead workshop staff including mechanics, hydraulic technicians, engine specialists, welders, supervisors, and operators.
- Allocate jobs and monitor technician productivity and repair quality.
- Train workshop teams on CAT machine systems, diagnostics, SOPs, and safety standards.
- Ensure proper repair documentation, machine history tracking, and workshop reporting.
- Maintain workshop discipline, housekeeping, and operational coordination.

6. Process Improvement & Cost Management

- Develop SOPs for CAT Excavator inspection, dismantling, refurbishment, assembly, testing, and delivery.
- Improve workshop efficiency, machine reliability, and refurbishment quality standards.
- Monitor machine refurbishment costs, profitability, and resource utilization.
- Minimize rework, repeat failures, machine downtime, and warranty issues.
- Establish preventive maintenance and quality control processes within workshop operations.

7. Safety & Compliance

- Ensure strict adherence to workshop safety standards and operational procedures.
- Maintain tools, lifting equipment, testing instruments, and workshop infrastructure in proper working condition.
- Ensure compliance with company operational and maintenance policies.
- Promote safe handling of hydraulic systems, heavy components, and workshop machinery.

Qualifications & Experience

- Diploma / B.E. in Mechanical, Automobile, or Heavy Equipment Engineering preferred.
- 8–15 years of experience in CAT Excavators, construction equipment, mining equipment, or heavy machinery refurbishment operations.
- Strong expertise in CAT Excavator engine systems, hydraulic systems, and machine diagnostics is mandatory.
