Job Purpose
To lead and manage the complete Mechanical Maintenance function of the plant, ensuring smooth operation of utility and process equipment through effective preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance while optimizing cost, manpower utilization, safety, and equipment reliability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Operations
- Handle overall Mechanical Maintenance Department activities as HOD.
- Ensure smooth functioning of all plant machinery and utility equipment.
- Conduct breakdown analysis, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
- Plan and execute shutdown maintenance activities for all plants.
2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Prepare and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
- Monitor machine health and ensure minimum downtime.
- Maintain equipment history and maintenance records.
3. Manpower Planning & Supervision
- Plan and manage deployment of maintenance engineers, fitters, welders, turners, and technicians.
- Allocate work effectively within plant and workshop activities.
- Coordinate with HR/Admin for manpower requirements.
4. Workshop & Technical Supervision
- Supervise workshop activities and assembly work.
- Guide maintenance engineers and technicians on technical matters.
- Ensure quality workmanship and adherence to standards.
5. Inventory & Spare Management
- Raise indents for stores and spare parts procurement.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure availability of critical spares.
- Inspect spares technically and approve GRN after verification.
6. Project Management
- Handle ongoing and new mechanical projects.
- Prepare BOQ and initiate procurement processes.
- Supervise installation, erection, commissioning, trials,
and testing of equipment.
7. Cost Control
- Control maintenance costs related to manpower, spare parts, and contractor bills.
- Promote use of reusable scrap items to minimize maintenance expenditure.
- Optimize operational cost of utility equipment.
8. Contractor Management
- Coordinate and supervise mechanical contractors.
- Obtain quotations, prepare comparative statements, and submit recommendations for approval.
- Ensure contractor manpower deployment as per job requirements.
9. Interdepartmental Coordination
- Coordinate with Production Department to minimize plant breakdowns.
- Follow up with Purchase Department for emergency spares procurement.
- Ensure smooth communication among departments for maintenance activities.
10. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures during maintenance work.
- Train technicians and staff on safe working practices and quality standards.
- Maintain statutory and departmental documentation.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in Mechanical Maintenance in manufacturing/process industry.
- Experience in handling utility and process equipment maintenance.
