AIX DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) Job Description
Prospect for Experienced DB2 Professionals
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated AIX DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, performance tuning, and security of IBM DB2 LUW (Linux, Unix, and Windows) databases operating on IBM AIX systems. This role requires ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and reliability to support enterprise-grade, mission-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Configuration: Install, configure, and upgrade DB2 UDB ESE and Fix Packs on AIX environments. Create and manage DB2 instances, databases, buffer pools, and table spaces.
- Database Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance activities, including RUNSTATS, REORG, and REORGCHK. Conduct table space re-balancing to optimize data distribution across storage mounts.
- Backup & Recovery: Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive backup and restoration procedures, both online and offline.
- Performance Monitoring & Tuning: Monitor database performance proactively utilizing tools such as db2pd, db2top, db2look, db2advis, and db2expln. Tune database configurations, memory, and I/O settings for optimal efficiency.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex database issues through analysis of db2diag logs, snapshot monitoring, and event monitoring.
- High Availability (HA/DR): Configure and administer high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including HADR, TSA, and Q-Replication.
- Security: Manage all aspects of database security, including user access, role-based authorization (RBAC), and compliance protocols.
- Automation: Develop and maintain Bash and Korn shell scripts,
leveraging automation tools such as Ansible to streamline routine DBA operations.
- Support: Provide 24x7 on-call support to ensure the stability and integrity of production database environments.
Required Technical Skills
- Operating Systems: Extensive experience with AIX (UNIX) operating systems and related utilities.
- Database Software: In-depth knowledge of DB2 LUW (versions 10.1 and above).
- Tools: Proficient in the use of DB2 utilities (export, import, load) and performance tools (db2pd, db2top, db2advis).
- Scripting: Advanced Unix Shell scripting skills for process automation.
- Storage: Solid understanding of SAN/storage, networking, and virtualization technologies (LPARs, VIO servers) within AIX environments.
- Languages: Strong proficiency in SQL.
Experience & Qualifications
- Experience: 4-10 years (L2/L3) of hands-on experience as a DB2 LUW DBA.
- Certification: IBM DB2 Certification is highly desirable.
