Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning Lead. The AI/ML Lead will drive and work on the adoption of automation tools on assignments within their Business Unit. This role includes developing and implementing regional strategies and working together with our community of Engineers/Professionals to develop increasingly streamlined and automated workflow approaches to their work delivery. They will manage all areas of automation adoption for their region including delivering the Regional Automation Plans, maintaining a network of Project Automation Leads in their region and driving adoption of the centrally developed automation tools, keeping track of tool usage on all the projects in the region and being responsible for training the Project Automation Leads. This role also includes data dashboards thereby enabling data-driven decision-making, across multidisciplinary teams. This role is central to our digital transformation strategy, enabling smarter workflows, predictive insights, and enhanced project deliveries ensuring compliance with our Global IT, Automation and AI/ML governance policies.
Key responsibilities
- Leadership and Team Management: Guide, mentor, and oversee a team of Project Automation Leads.
- Cultivate a cooperative team culture uniting the region.
- Hold regular team meetings and assess teams requirements.
- Coordinate and report on the adoption of Automation in your region to Regional Automation Lead.
- Ensure mass adoption of Automation across Teams and Projects.
- Regional Automation Strategy: Working closely with Regional Automation Lead and within our global automation strategy, develop the region's Automation strategy to advance Buro Happold's workflow automation adoption over the next five years, including automation policy compliance, project adoption targets and reporting.
- Drive the growth of automation adoption on projects leveraging Buro Happold's Computational Engineering strengths and BIM knowledge.
- Lead the Automation in the region to stay ahead of market competition by identifying and incorporating cutting-edge technologies and approaches.
- Ensure adherence to our Global Automation, AI/ML governance guidelines.
- Training: Provide comprehensive technical advice to Project Automation Leads, Engineers and tool users.
- Maintain regional Technology KO templates, guidance, tool settings, training videos and region-relevant automation workflow library.
- Provide training on all the automation tools selected for the region by the BU Discipline Leads.
- Project Delivery/Technical: Advise the PPs, PDs & PLs as required and requested.
- Develop briefs and automation project plans, incorporating operational insights.
- Develop Cloud based applications including LLM/GenAI and deploy them on projects.
- Ensure the financial success of projects.
- Identify opportunities for project automation improvements and implement best practices.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of automation tools and report it to the Regional Automation Lead.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project efficiencies.
- Ensure delivering margin enhancement across Teams, Disciplines, Projects along with GDs/PDs/PLs/JLs.
Your Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Certifications in AI/ML preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in AI/ML, Data Analytics and/or Automation (ideally within the AEC sector).
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Machine Learning and Deep Learning Algorithms.
- Experience with Data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).
- Familiarity with construction tech platforms (Procore, BIM 360).
- Knowledge of scripting for Automation preferred (Dynamo, Grasshopper, Forge API).
- Strong problem solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Familiarity with engineering data (structural, environmental, geospatial, BIM data) is a strong plus.
- Technical Skills: Develop and deploy machine learning models for applications such as predictive analysis, energy optimization, and project data management.
- Hands on experience of working with LLM (Large Language Models).
- Analyze structured and unstructured data from BIM, spreadsheets and other project design and management systems.
- Collaborate with engineering and design teams to embed AI/ML and Data Science driven solutions into project workflows.
- Create intuitive dashboards and data visualizations to support strategic decisions.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities in design, documentation, and construction processes.
- Evaluate emerging tools and lead their integration into existing systems.
- Stay updated on global trends in AI/ML, and Automation relevant to the built environment.
- Contribute to the digital road mapping and innovation strategy for India region.
- Conduct training, demos, and workshops to build AI/ML capabilities across teams.
