Reports To: Medical Superintendent / Head of Hospital Operations Manager
Job Summary
The Nursing In-Charge/Nursing Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and evaluating all nursing services to ensure high-quality patient care. The role includes managing nursing staff, maintaining clinical standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and driving continuous quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Nursing Operations
- Ensure delivery of secure, effective, and patient-centered nursing care.
- Supervise daily nursing activities across all departments.
- Monitor staffing levels and prepare duty rosters.
- Ensure adequate nursing coverage for all shifts.
- Maintain discipline, punctuality, and professional conduct among nursing staff.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and SOPs.
2. Patient Care Management
- Monitor quality of nursing care and patient safety.
- Conduct regular nursing rounds.
- Ensure proper medication administration practices.
- Monitor infection prevention and control practices.
- Ensure accurate nursing documentation.
- Address patient and attendant complaints related to nursing services.
3. Staff Management
- Recruit, orient, train, and mentor nursing staff.
- Conduct performance appraisals.
- Identify training needs and organize Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) programs.
- Monitor attendance, leave, overtime, and manpower utilization.
- Promote teamwork and employee engagement.
4. Quality & Accreditation
- Ensure compliance with NABH, NABL (where applicable), and statutory requirements.
- Participate in hospital quality initiatives.
- Conduct nursing audits and clinical quality indicators.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Participate in internal and external audits.
5. Infection Control
- Ensure compliance with infection control policies.
- Monitor hand hygiene compliance.
- Participate in Infection Control Committee meetings.
- Ensure biomedical waste management compliance.
- Coordinate surveillance of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs).
6. Medication & Equipment Management
- Ensure availability of medicines and consumables.
- Monitor emergency crash carts.
- Ensure maintenance and calibration of nursing equipment.
- Report equipment malfunction promptly.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain nursing records and reports.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly nursing reports.
- Monitor nursing quality indicators.
- Maintain incident and adverse event reports.
8. Emergency & Critical Care
- Coordinate emergency response during medical emergencies.
- Ensure nursing preparedness for disaster management.
- Participate in mock drills.
- Ensure emergency equipment readiness.
9. Coordination
- Coordinate with doctors, HR, Pharmacy, Laboratory, OT, ICU, Housekeeping, Biomedical Engineering, and Quality departments.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
- Support patient discharge planning.
10. Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- NABH Standards
- Nursing Council Guidelines
- Biomedical Waste Management Rules
- Fire & Safety Regulations
- Infection Control Policies
- Patient Safety Goals
