Role Summary

We are looking for a Network Planning Engineer within the Network Team part of the Infrastructure and Operations function of our Global Capability Centre in Chennai, India. This is a regional role for SMBCs APAC Network Infrastructure Planning and Service management, this candidate will be responsible for overseeing the planning, service management and implementation for the APAC region Network, this role ensures the network aligns with business objectives, complies with regulatory requirements, and operates efficiently and securely. This role directly reports to Network team lead.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain APAC network strategy, architecture, and standards to ensure scalability, resilience, and security.
2. Perform network capacity planning and traffic analysis to support business growth and technology initiatives.
3. Review network utilization trends and recommend infrastructure upgrades to address future demand.
4. Develop and manage network technology refresh and lifecycle programs with strong knowledge of network products and solutions.
5. Drive standardization of network designs, configurations, and operational practices across APAC.
6. Evaluate network monitoring and management platforms, recommending improvements to enhance operational visibility and efficiency.
7. Manage enterprise IP Address Management (IPAM), including address allocation, tracking, governance, and documentation.
8. Lead network vulnerability assessment and remediation activities in accordance with security and regulatory requirements.
9. Conduct compliance reviews to ensure adherence to network architecture, security standards, and audit requirements.
10. Plan, coordinate, and execute network Disaster Recovery (DR) exercises to validate recovery capabilities.
11. Review DR test results,



identify gaps, and implement corrective actions to improve operational resilience.
12. Partner with Security, Infrastructure, Asset Management, and Risk teams on network governance and strategic planning.
13. Manage telecommunications providers, technology vendors, and service contracts to ensure service quality and cost effectiveness.
14. Produce management reports on network capacity, asset lifecycle, service performance, risk, and compliance status.
15. Provide technical leadership and guidance for regional network projects and infrastructure initiatives.
16. Assess emerging network technologies and recommend solutions that improve reliability, security, and operational efficiency.

Network Automation Responsibilities

1. Identify manual operational processes and implement automation solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
2. Develop automated workflows for configuration compliance, health checks, vulnerability tracking, IPAM management, inventory reconciliation, and operational reporting.
3. Leverage automation platforms, scripting, APIs, and dashboarding tools to improve network visibility, governance, and operational scalability.

Key Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8-12 years of overall experience in Network Planning, Design, Implementation, and Operations.
- Strong expertise in Network Engineering, Infrastructure Planning, and Operational Support within large-scale enterprise or service provider networks.





Strong knowledge of:

- SD-WAN
- Zscaler / SASE
- Routing & Switching
- BGP
- OSPF
- QoS
- Data Center Networking
- Virtual Port Channel (vPC)
- Network Security Architecture
- Strong understanding of enterprise-scale network capacity planning, lifecycle management, standardization, and architecture governance.
- Experience evaluating products, technologies, support models, and operational costs to support regional technology rationalization and standardization initiatives.
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco, Fortinet, Check Point, F5, or equivalent enterprise networking technologies.
- Experience supporting large enterprise and banking network infrastructure within regional or global environments.
- Strong understanding of risk management, information security standards, operational resilience, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to work effectively across multiple technology domains and cross-functional teams.
- Good understanding of ITSM processes, including Incident, Problem, Change, Asset, and Configuration Management.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, planning, and decision-making skills.
- Experience working in banking or financial services environments would be an advantage.
- Good understanding of MAS Technology Risk Management (TRM), APRA, RBI, or other APAC financial regulatory requirements would be advantageous.
- Strong technical writing, documentation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Certifications

- CCNP Enterprise / CCDP
- CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure is desirable
- ITIL Foundation or higher
- Cisco DevNet Associate / Qualified
- Red Hat Ansible Automation
- Python for Network Engineers
- Fortinet NSE Certifications
- Zscaler Certifications
- Automation-related certifications are highly desirable.
