Position: Polymer Technologist - Compounding & Mixing (Polymer Recycling Plant)

Location : Gumudipoondi

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Polymer Technologist specializing in polymer compounding and mixing for our polymer recycling facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing recycled polymer formulations, optimizing compounding processes, improving product quality, and ensuring consistent production of recycled polymer compounds that meet customer specifications.

The candidate should possess strong knowledge of recycled plastics, additives, fillers, pigments, stabilizers, and extrusion compounding processes.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities

- Develop and optimize polymer compound formulations using recycled plastics.
- Select appropriate additives, fillers, pigments, impact modifiers, coupling agents, and stabilizers.
- Improve mechanical, thermal, and processing properties of recycled polymer compounds.
- Evaluate incoming recycled raw materials for suitability and consistency.
- Establish formulation standards for various customer applications.
- Conduct trials to improve product performance and reduce production costs.
- Troubleshoot issues related to compounding, extrusion, mixing, pellet quality, dispersion, and processing.
- Ensure proper dispersion of fillers, color masterbatches, and additives.

Production Responsibilities

- Monitor compounding and mixing operations.
- Optimize twin-screw or single-screw extrusion parameters.
- Improve production efficiency and reduce waste.
- Minimize material loss during production.
- Ensure proper drying and handling of recycled polymers.
- Maintain process documentation and production records.
- Support commissioning of new compounding lines and equipment.

Quality Assurance





- Maintain consistency in recycled polymer compounds.
- Perform laboratory testing including:

- Melt Flow Index (MFI)
- Density
- Tensile Strength
- Elongation
- Flexural Strength
- Impact Strength (Izod/Charpy)
- Moisture Analysis
- Ash Content
- Color Matching

- Ensure products meet customer specifications.
- Investigate customer complaints and implement corrective actions.

Research & Development

- Develop value-added recycled polymer compounds.
- Explore sustainable formulations.
- Evaluate recent additives and compatibilizers.
- Develop customized grades for:

- Automotive
- Electrical
- Consumer Goods
- Packaging
- Pipes
- Furniture
- Injection Moulding
- Blow Moulding
- Extrusion Applications

Process Improvement

- Improve cycle times and throughput.
- Reduce energy consumption.
- Improve mixing efficiency.
- Optimize screw configurations.
- Standardize process parameters.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma practices.

Safety & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with safety procedures.
- Follow environmental regulations for recycling operations.
- Maintain proper chemical handling practices.
- Support ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and other quality systems.

Educational Qualification

- B.E./B.Tech in Polymer Technology
- M.Tech in Polymer Technology (Preferred)
- B.Sc./M.Sc. Polymer Science
- Diploma in Plastic Technology (with extensive experience)

8-15 years of experience in:

- Polymer Compounding
- Polymer Recycling
- Plastic Processing
- Polymer Formulation
- Mixing Technology
- Extrusion
- Masterbatch Manufacturing
- Engineering Plastics
- Recycled Polymer Manufacturing

Experience in recycling PP, HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, ABS, HIPS, Nylon, PET, PVC, PC, and engineering plastics will be highly preferred.
