Deputy General Manager (DGM) Stores

Role Purpose

The DGM Stores is responsible for leading the end-to-end stores and inventory operations of the TMT manufacturing plant. The role ensures timely availability of raw materials, consumables, spares, refractory items, and finished goods through productive inventory planning, receipt, storage, issuance, and stock control while maintaining compliance with company policies, safety standards, and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Stores Operations:-

- Lead overall plant stores operations, including receipt, storage, preservation, issue, and dispatch of materials.
- Ensure uninterrupted availability of production-critical materials by maintaining optimum inventory levels.
- Establish standardized stores procedures and continuously improve operational efficiency.
- Supervise inward and outward material movements with accurate documentation.

Inventory Management

- Monitor inventory levels and optimize stock without affecting production continuity.
- Control slow-moving, non-moving, obsolete, and surplus inventory.
- Conduct periodic physical verification, cycle counts, and annual stock audits.
- Ensure inventory accuracy through ERP-based inventory management systems.
- Maintain minimum, maximum, reorder, and safety stock levels.

Material Coordination

- Coordinate with Procurement, Production, Maintenance, Quality, Finance, and Logistics for smooth material flow.
- Ensure timely receipt of purchased materials and issuance to user departments.
- Monitor critical spares inventory for rolling mill, steel melting shop, utility, electrical, and mechanical maintenance.

ERP & Documentation

- Ensure accurate and timely ERP entries for GRN, material receipts, issues, transfers,



and stock adjustments.
- Maintain complete documentation for audits and statutory compliance.
- Generate inventory MIS, ageing reports, stock valuation, and consumption reports.

Cost Control

- Reduce inventory carrying costs through effective planning.
- Monitor inventory turnover and working capital utilization.
- Implement inventory optimization and cost-saving initiatives.
- Prevent material losses, pilferage, and excess inventory.

Team Management

- Lead and develop the stores team through performance management and training.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor daily operational performance.
- Foster a culture of discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Compliance & Safety

- Ensure safe storage of materials as per company safety standards.
- Maintain compliance with internal controls, ISO systems, and statutory requirements.
- Support internal and external audits and implement corrective actions.

Continuous Improvement

- Implement Lean, 5S, FIFO/FEFO, Kaizen, and best inventory management practices.
- Improve warehouse layout and storage utilization.
- Drive digitalization and automation initiatives within stores operations.
