Kriyadocs is a SaaS platform purpose-built for the scholarly publishing domain. We work with some of the world's leading academic publishers and societies, powering the end-to-end publishing workflow - from manuscript ingestion through editorial review, production, typesetting and delivery. Quality is not a gate at Kriyadocs - it is a discipline embedded across the engineering organisation. We are building a QE function that shifts quality left, automates relentlessly, and gives every squad the confidence to ship fast without breaking things.

The Role

We are looking for a Quality Engineering Lead to own the quality strategy across our entire platform. This is a senior individual contributor role - you will not be managing people directly, but you will be the technical authority on quality across a team of 5 QA Engineers and 1 incoming Automation Engineer, all reporting to the VP of Engineering.

You will define how we test, what we automate, and how quality integrates into every squad's delivery cycle. You will be the person who makes quality a first-class engineering concern - not an afterthought.

What You Will Do

- Own quality strategy end to end - define the test philosophy, coverage standards, and quality gates across all three engineering squads and the R&D; vertical.
- Build the automation framework - design and implement a robust, maintainable automation suite using Playwright, or equivalent; set the standard that the incoming Automation Engineer will build on.
- Lead API and integration testing - establish comprehensive API test coverage across all platform services, with particular focus on integration points between squads and external systems.
- Champion shift-left quality - embed quality practices early in the development cycle; work with Squad Leads and engineers to catch issues at design and code review, not just at test.




- Leverage AI-assisted testing tools - evaluate and adopt AI-powered testing tools (including Claude Code and agentic test generation workflows) to accelerate coverage and reduce manual effort.
- Define and track quality metrics - own defect escape rates, test coverage, automation ROI, and release quality KPIs; report to VP of Engineering with clear, actionable data.
- Mentor and elevate the QA team - coach 5 QA Engineers on automation skills, testing best practices, and a quality engineering mindset; help them grow from testers to quality engineers.
- Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD quality gates - integrate test suites into the deployment pipeline; ensure no release ships without defined quality thresholds being met.

What We Are Looking For

- 7 - 10 years of quality engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior QE role.
- Deep expertise in test automation frameworks - Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or equivalent; you have built automation suites from scratch, not just maintained them.

- Strong API and integration testing skills - REST, GraphQL, and service-level testing; comfortable with tools like Postman, k6, or similar.

- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted testing - using AI tools for test case generation, coverage analysis, or agentic testing workflows.

- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and how quality gates integrate into automated deployment workflows.
- Experience working in a SaaS environment with multiple concurrent releases and high availability requirements.
- Solid analytical thinking - you can look at a complex system, identify risk areas, and design a test strategy that prioritises coverage where it matters most.
- Excellent communication skills - you can translate quality metrics into business risk and influence engineering decisions without formal authority.

Nice to Have

- Experience testing document processing pipelines - DOCX, XML, PDF transformation, or content conversion workflows.
- Familiarity with performance and load testing tools (k6, JMeter, Locust, or similar).
- Prior experience in scholarly publishing, academic content platforms, or multi-tenant SaaS.
- Exposure to contract testing or consumer-driven contract patterns (Pact or similar).
