Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced Legacy Modernization professional to lead and support modernization initiatives across AS400, WebSmart, Java, and .NET-based ecosystems. The role requires strong technical depth in legacy IBM i environments, hands-on development exposure, and the ability to help transition monolithic applications into modern, scalable architectures. The ideal candidate should be able to analyse existing systems, define modernization approaches, and contribute to both development and architecture decisions.

Key Responsibilities

- Analyze existing AS400 and WebSmart applications and identify modernization opportunities
- Design target-state solutions using Java and/or .NET technologies
- Develop, enhance, and support legacy and modernized application components
- Collaborate with business and technical teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Participate in architecture discussions, solutioning, and modernization planning
- Support migration from legacy monolithic systems to modern frameworks and services
- Develop integration components, APIs, and interfaces between legacy and modern systems
- Perform code reviews, debugging, performance tuning, and defect resolution
- Prepare technical documentation, design documents, and implementation plans
- Provide technical guidance to developers and support teams
- Ensure solutions meet performance, security, scalability,



and maintainability standards

Required Skills

- 12+ years of total IT experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in AS400 / IBM i development
- Good exposure to WebSmart development and support
- Solid knowledge in modernization methodologies
- Strong development experience in either Java or .NET, with ability to work across both if required
- Good understanding of RPG, CL, DB2/400, SQL, and IBM i utilities
- Experience in legacy application analysis and modernization
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work on both development and architecture-related activities
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Skills

- Experience in modernization projects involving refactoring, re-platforming, or re-architecting
- Exposure to REST APIs, web services, and integration patterns
- Knowledge of microservices, cloud-based architectures, or enterprise integration tools
- Experience in Agile/Scrum delivery environments
- Exposure to source control, CI/CD, and release management processes
- Experience mentoring junior developers or leading small technical teams

Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
- 12+ years of total IT experience with at least 8 years of relevant experience in IBM i / AS400 modernization
