We are seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. The platform is a cloud-native, event-driven data ingestion and streaming system that securely processes high-volume device events at scaleingesting billions of records per day across multiple

upstream systems and downstream consumers.

The successful candidate will help maintain, enhance, and scale the platform, working across core microservices, API integrations, and cloud infrastructure. This is a hands-on engineering role with a path to long-term engagement for the right fit.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain Java Spring Boot microservices across the ingestion (write) and retrieval (read) paths of the platform
• Support integration with the API gateway layer for proxy management,
token validation, and routing configuration
• Support Kafka version upgrade efforts, including migration from
ZooKeeper-based coordination to KRaft (ZooKeeper-free) mode; update producers, consumers, and broker configuration accordingly
• Manage and modernize dependency lifecycle across platform
microservices: audit third-party libraries, resolve version conflicts, enforce security patching cadence, and maintain BOMs (Bill of Materials) for consistent dependency governance
• Work with Kafka (AWS MSK) for high-throughput event streaming;
troubleshoot and optimize consumer and producer pipelines
• Implement and maintain authentication and authorization using OAuth2, certificate-based auth, and enterprise Zero Trust standards
• Onboard recent data producers and consumers,



coordinating with partner teams on schema validation and Dead Letter Queue handling
• Support production SLA commitments and assist with incident resolution when escalated by the platform team Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of Java development experience; strong proficiency with Spring Boot

Experience building event-driven microservices and deep working
knowledge of Apache Kafka topics, partitions, consumer groups, offsets, and producer/consumer tuning
• Hands-on experience with Kafka version upgrades and broker migrations, including familiarity with KRaft mode (ZooKeeper removal) on managed or self-managed clusters
• Strong dependency management skills: Maven or Gradle BOM
management, dependency conflict resolution, CVE remediation, and library upgrade strategies across multi-module projects
• Familiarity with cloud services: managed Kafka (e.g. AWS MSK or
Confluent), Cassandra-compatible storage, container orchestration, and object storage
• Understanding of API gateway concepts, OAuth2 token flows, and Zero Trust security principles
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across producer and consumer teams

Nice to Have
• Experience with API gateways such as Kong, Apigee, or Envoy
• Familiarity with Snowflake and Kafka connectors for analytics pipelines
• Python experience for secondary microservices or data pipeline work
• Knowledge of PoP token standards or Entra IDP certificate-based
authentication
• Experience with Apache Kafka Streams or Schema Registry for event
schema management
• Background in telecom, device management, or high-throughput IoT
