Role Summary / Purpose
We are seeking an Advanced Lead Engineer to join the Engine Power Solutions Center of Excellence (COE) in Bangalore. This role is responsible for leading the design, development, validation, and optimization of diesel engine components and systems, leveraging strong expertise in mechanical design, structural analysis, and finite element analysis (FEA).
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering engineering solutions across the product lifecycle, including Current Product Introduction (NPI), New Technology Introduction (NTI), productivity enhancement, cost optimization, and reliability improvement initiatives. Working in a global, cross-functional environment, the engineer will collaborate closely with design, analysis, manufacturing, sourcing, and validation teams, as well as external engineering partners, to develop innovative and robust solutions that meet performance, quality, and business objectives.
This position requires a strong technical foundation, problem-solving mindset, and the ability to lead complex engineering projects from concept through production implementation. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates who are required to relocate to support the needs of the role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and validation of diesel engine components and subsystems to meet performance, reliability, cost, weight, and quality objectives.
- Translate customer, system, and regulatory requirements into technical specifications and robust engineering solutions.
- Execute detailed engineering activities including concept development, engineering calculations, material selection, DFMEA, tolerance analysis, and design verification.
- Develop and maintain component specifications, validation plans, engineering standards, design guides, and technical documentation.
- Perform and guide Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural, thermal, vibration, fatigue,
and durability performance of components.
- Develop, validate, and correlate simulation models, leveraging analysis and test data to improve product robustness and reliability.
- Lead verification and validation activities, including component, engine, and field testing, and drive resolution of technical issues.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, validation, and supplier teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, serviceable, and cost-effective.
- Conduct technical reviews and ensure compliance with engineering standards, customer requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Drive continuous improvement through innovation, simplification, digital engineering tools, and best engineering practices.
- Manage project execution by tracking quality, cost, schedule, risks, and key deliverables.
- Serve as the technical focal point for assigned components, providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and communicating project status, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical product design, development, analysis, and validation.
- Experience leading component or subsystem design projects in engine, powertrain, rail, automotive, heavy equipment, aerospace, or similar industries.
- Robust expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), preferably using ANSYS or equivalent simulation tools.
- Experience applying simulation-driven design and development methodologies.
- Solid knowledge of mechanical design, materials, manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, and GDT.
- Ability to develop engineering specifications, validation plans, technical documentation, and design standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across global cross-functional teams and suppliers.
- Willingness to support hands-on development activities, including component testing, engine testing, and field validation.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required.
Desired Characteristics:
- Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
- Experience in diesel engine design, development, validation, and testing.
- Knowledge of component and system-level verification and validation methodologies.
- Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt certification or experience applying statistical methods and DOE techniques.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and innovation skills.
- Good understanding of diesel engine architecture, component interactions, and material behavior.
- Knowledge of durability, fatigue, reliability, and failure analysis principles.
- Ability to develop robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, drive continuous improvement, and work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and committed to technical excellence and continuous learning.
