Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Control Algorithms Engineer. This role is part of the CIMI embedded engineering team and involves close collaboration with the Seattle-based engineering team as well as the Oviduo team in Germany.
The engineer will focus on Application Software (ASW) development for advanced vehicle control functions, working on real systems with tight integration between software, hardware, and physical vehicle behavior.
Key Responsibilities
Application Software & Control Algorithms
- Design and implement embedded application software for vehicle control systems, with a robust focus on control theory, vehicle dynamics, and physics-based modeling.
- Develop, test, and validate control algorithms on real hardware using onsite test benches.
Auto-Leveling Algorithms (DSP Filtering)
- Develop algorithms to automatically level a parked RV chassis using onboard accelerometer data.
- Design and implement Digital Signal Processing (DSP) filters (e.g., low-pass filters, Kalman filters) to remove engine and compressor vibration noise from the raw gravity vector.
Axle Load Estimation
- Design a high-accuracy software model to estimate physical load on each vehicle axle.
- Use pneumatic pressure transducer data as input and develop compensation lookup tables (LUTs) to account for:
- Airbag rubber hysteresis
- Suspension mechanical friction
- Temperature-dependent effects
Tag Axle Control
- Implement embedded state-machine logic to dynamically:
- Inflate and deflate the rear tag axle
- Lock and unlock the tag axle steering mechanism
- Integrate vehicle speed limits received via CAN to ensure safe and compliant operation.
Embedded Integration & Diagnostics
- Work with Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL) and support porting and integration of legacy embedded codebases.
- Support debugging, testing, and validation using automotive diagnostics and CAN tooling.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Embedded Software
- Strong proficiency in Embedded C/C++ for automotive-grade microcontrollers.
- Experience working close to hardware with real-time constraints.
Automotive Communication & Diagnostics
- Solid understanding of Automotive CAN networks.
- Hands-on experience with Vector tools such as CANalyzer and CANoe.
- Familiarity with UDS diagnostics (ISO 14229).
Control Systems & Modeling
- Proven background in control theory, including PID control loops.
- Strong experience in signal processing, DSP fundamentals, and filtering techniques.
- Knowledge of mechatronics and physics-based system modeling.
Embedded Architecture
- Experience working with HAL layers and adapting or porting existing embedded software stacks.
- Ability to work across software, hardware, and systems engineering boundaries.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Automotive, commercial vehicle, or RV systems experience
- Hands-on experience with test benches and physical system validation
- Experience working in distributed, international engineering teams
