About the Role

The incumbent will be responsible for the design, development, optimization, and maintenance of complex Gemstone-based applications on a high-transaction, enterprise-scale platform. This role provides technical leadership, ensures system stability, performance, and scalability, and includes mentoring junior developers as well as contributing to architectural and strategic technology decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Development & Delivery

- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications built on the Gemstone/S Smalltalk platform.
- Translate business and functional requirements into high-quality technical solutions.
- Write clean, efficient, well-documented, and maintainable code aligned with best practices.
- Perform code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback to team members.
- Optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability of existing applications.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement robust fixes.

Architecture & Systems Design

- Contribute to system architecture and design decisions for recent and existing platforms.
- Ensure solutions are aligned with enterprise architecture standards and security principles.
- Participate in technical design sessions and solution walkthroughs with stakeholders.

Quality, Risk & Governance

- Ensure adherence to SDLC, coding standards, and version control practices.




- Identify technical risks and proactively recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support testing, deployment, and release processes to ensure stable production environments.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

- Work closely with business analysts, testers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams.
- Provide technical input to solution scoping, effort estimation, and delivery planning.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Leadership & Mentorship

- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate developers.
- Act as a subject matter expert for Gemstone within the development team.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Mandatory Technical Skills

- 7+ years of experience in software development.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with Gemstone/S Smalltalk or similar object-oriented persistent environments.
- Proven experience working on enterprise-scale systems in a production setting.
- Advanced understanding of object-oriented design and design patterns.
- Experience with database design, persistent object stores, and performance tuning.
- Strong debugging, profiling, and system optimization skills.
- Experience with version control systems (Git, SVN, etc.).
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.

Preferred

- Prior experience in financial services, insurance, investments, or other high-transaction environments.
