Job Title: Head Steel Melting Shop (AVP/VP)

Job Purpose:

To provide strategic and operational leadership to the Steel Melting Shop, covering Induction Furnace (IF), Ladle Refining Furnace (LRF), and Continuous Casting operations, as an independently accountable business unit.

The position is responsible for developing long-term capacity, technology, cost, quality, and sustainability strategies; building a future-ready organization; and representing SMS in top-management, investment, and sustainability forums. The role ensures that SMS performance supports the plants overall competitiveness, profitability, and growth objectives.

Principal Accountabilities

1. SMS Strategic Roadmap

- Own and implement the strategic roadmap for SMS covering capacity expansion, technology advancement, product mix, and cost competitiveness.

2. Operational and Business Performance

- Deliver production, quality, cost, safety, yield, and profitability targets in line with plant objectives and industry benchmarks.
- Manage SMS as an accountable business unit and cost/profit centre.

3. Organizational Capability and Succession

- Build organizational capability, leadership bench strength, and succession depth to sustain SMS performance beyond the current leadership.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Strategic Planning & Business Alignment

- Translate the plants growth and profitability objectives into an SMS strategy covering capacity, product mix, operational efficiency, and cost competitiveness.
- Lead annual strategic and business-planning cycles in alignment with top-management and Board expectations.
- Monitor steel-market, raw-material, and energy-cost trends and proactively revise the SMS strategy.

2. Capacity Expansion & Technology Roadmap

- Lead feasibility studies,



business-case development, and execution oversight for furnace capacity expansion, new casting lines, and automation upgrades.
- Benchmark SMS technology against global best practices and drive the adoption of suitable Industry 4.0 and automation solutions.
- Lead SMS CAPEX planning and prioritization, ensuring ROI-based investment decisions.

3. Cost Leadership & Profitability (P&L; Ownership)

- Manage SMS as a cost and profit centre, focusing on cost per tonne, power consumption, refractory and alloy costs, yield, and productivity.
- Drive cost-reduction and productivity-improvement initiatives through Kaizen, Six Sigma, and TPM methodologies.
- Deliver measurable improvements in operational efficiency and EBITDA.
- Present periodic financial and operational performance reports to top management and the Board.

4. Organizational Capability & Talent Pipeline

- Build leadership capability among Shift In-Charges, Process Engineers, and Section Heads.
- Develop succession plans for critical positions within SMS.
- Establish technical, safety, and leadership-development programmes for the SMS workforce.
- Promote a high-performance and accountable culture through structured performance management, coaching, and employee engagement.

5. Quality & Customer Value Strategy

- Define the SMS quality strategy, including the grade portfolio, steel-cleanliness standards, and process capabilities.




- Align quality standards with evolving customer expectations and market requirements.
- Sponsor recent-grade development and process-improvement projects in collaboration with Quality and R&D; teams.
- Ensure consistent product quality and reliability to strengthen the plants competitive position.

6. Safety, Sustainability & ESG Leadership

- Champion a zero-harm safety culture and establish a long-term safety and risk-reduction roadmap for SMS.
- Lead energy-efficiency, emission-reduction, decarbonization, and scrap-mix optimization initiatives.
- Align SMS operations with the companys sustainability and ESG commitments.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, statutory, and regulatory requirements.

7. Digital Transformation & Process Automation

- Lead the digitalization of SMS operations through advanced process controls, predictive maintenance, and real-time yield and energy dashboards.
- Promote data-driven decision-making for furnace scheduling, refractory-life optimization, quality prediction, and operational performance.
- Collaborate with IT and automation teams to develop a digitally mature and future-ready Steel Melting Shop.

8. Stakeholder Management & Governance

- Represent SMS in senior-management reviews, investment committees, audits, and external stakeholder engagements.
- Coordinate with Rolling Mill, Raw Material/Scrap Yard, Maintenance, Quality, and Production Planning teams to optimize plant-wide value-chain performance.
- Build strong relationships with key customers, technology partners, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
- Support the long-term growth, competitiveness, and strategic positioning of SMS.
