Role & responsibilities
The Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I;) is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and efficiency of all electrical and instrumentation systems across the cement plant. The role involves preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of electrical equipment, PLC/DCS systems, instrumentation, and process automation to ensure uninterrupted plant operations while maintaining compliance with safety and statutory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance
- Plan, execute, and monitor preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Ensure high availability and reliability of HT/LT electrical systems.
- Maintain transformers, switchgears, motors, VFDs, MCCs, PCCs, DG sets, UPS, and capacitor banks.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults and minimize equipment downtime.
- Monitor electrical load distribution and power consumption.
Instrumentation & Automation
- Maintain field instruments such as transmitters, pressure, temperature, level, and flow instruments.
- Perform calibration of field instruments as per schedule.
- Maintain PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, and process automation systems.
- Diagnose and resolve instrumentation and automation-related issues.
- Ensure accurate process measurements and control.
Plant Equipment Maintenance
- Support maintenance of:
- Crusher
- Raw Mill
- Kiln
- Cement Mill
- Packing Plant
- Conveyors
- Compressors
- Captive Power Plant (if applicable)
Shutdown Planning
- Prepare annual and monthly shutdown maintenance plans.
- Coordinate with Mechanical, Production, and Planning departments.
- Ensure shutdown jobs are completed safely within planned timelines.
Energy Management
- Monitor specific power consumption.
- Identify energy-saving opportunities.
- Implement initiatives for electrical efficiency improvement.
- Assist in maintaining power factor and reducing electrical losses.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Electrical Safety Rules, Factory Act, and statutory regulations.
- Follow Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Conduct electrical safety inspections and audits.
- Participate in safety meetings and incident investigations.
- Ensure adherence to PPE requirements and secure work practices.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain maintenance records and equipment history.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance reports.
- Update preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain calibration records.
- Analyze breakdown reports and recommend corrective actions.
Team Management
- Supervise engineers, supervisors, technicians, and contractors.
- Allocate daily maintenance activities.
- Train team members on troubleshooting and safety practices.
- Monitor contractor performance during shutdowns.
Inventory Management
- Monitor availability of critical electrical and instrumentation spares.
- Raise material requisitions.
- Optimize spare inventory while minimizing stock-outs.
Continuous Improvement
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring failures.
- Implement reliability improvement initiatives.
- Participate in TPM, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement projects.
- Suggest process improvements to reduce maintenance costs and downtime.
