The role is part of the Central Projects team of TVS Mobility Group, a diversified automotive component organization with businesses spanning tyres, air springs, sensing solutions, and rubber & allied products.
The position provides Front-End Engineering (FEED) support to capacity expansion initiatives and special projects aimed at improving productivity, quality, safety, cost, and operational robustness, through the application of sound engineering judgment and project management practices.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Engaging with internal customers and stakeholders to understand requirements, expectations, and improvement opportunities.
- Developing and evaluating technical concepts and alternatives, sourcing vendors / solutions where required, and presenting proposals to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Preparing and releasing engineering specifications, layouts, and drawings to enable procurement and execution.
- Supporting execution teams during implementation, ensuring that design intent is translated into reality and that committed performance parameters are achieved, leading to smooth technical closure.
The position is critical in ensuring that project concepts are translated into robust, safe, cost-effective, and execution-ready designs, thereby enabling seamless downstream execution, commissioning, and handover.
While based in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, the role involves execution support across multiple locations in India and overseas, requiring travel and short-duration site deputation during critical phases of project execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Initiation & Requirements Capturing
- Capture user, process, business requirements and translate into explicit technical scopes.
- Develop and validate project scope, objectives, and technical feasibility in coordination with all stakeholders.
- Create and maintain project initiation documents as per defined SOP
2. Project Design & Engineering
- Develop and release Plant layouts, Equipment layouts, Utility routing layouts, Space optimization and future expansion provisions
- Prepare and release technical specifications, datasheets, engineering BOQs, and design standards for equipment and utilities.
- Ensure designs are execution-friendly, safe, maintainable, scalable, and aligned with long-term operational needs.
- Review, validate, and approve Vendor GA drawings, P&IDs;, Layout submissions, Design calculations and assumptions
.
3. Planning, Costing & Feasibility
- Prepare project feasibility studies, CAPEX estimates, and costbenefit analyses at concept stage.
- Develop and validate project cost estimates, material take-offs, and budget assumptions.
- Drive value engineering to optimize cost without compromising safety, quality, or performance.
- Support procurement teams during technical bid evaluation, vendor shortlisting, and finalization.
4. Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Coordination
- Act as the single-point technical interface between design, execution, procurement, and operations teams.
- Coordinate closely with all stakeholders
- Support execution teams during erection and commissioning by resolving design-related queries, deviations, and field constraints.
- Coordinate with stakeholders post-commissioning to monitor performance against design intent and close gaps.
- Collaborate across plants to standardize designs and share best practices.
5. Quality, Safety & Statutory Compliance
- Embed safety-in-design, maintainability, accessibility, and ergonomics into layouts and specifications.
- Ensure all designs comply with internal Safety standards, internal engineering guidelines and statutory norms
6. Documentation & Knowledge Management
- Prepare, review, and maintain Design documentation, As-built drawings, Technical manuals, Design records and approvals
- Standardize specifications, layouts, templates, and design philosophies across group companies.
- Capture project learnings and lessons learned and continuously update engineering standards.
7. Innovation, Technology & Continuous Improvement
- Drive introduction of alternate designs, new technologies, automation solutions, and custom-built machines,
- Propose multiple technical options and facilitate informed project decisions.
- Integrate energy efficiency, sustainability, modularity, and digitalization into FEED deliverables.
8. Project Closure & Performance Monitoring
- Ensure technical deliverables are met and support formal project closure from an engineering standpoint.
- Monitor post-commissioning performance against design assumptions and support corrective actions where required.
Essential Qualifications
- Graduate in Mechanical Engineering
Required Experiences
- Around 8 years of experience in project initiation,
planning and front-end engineering design for industrial projects.
- Proven experience in preparation, validation and finalization of equipment technical specifications for procurement.
- Hands-on experience in plant and equipment layout design for greenfield and brownfield projects, including expansion and modification scenarios.
- Strong design and drafting experience using CAD tools (AutoCAD mandatory; 3D tools an advantage).

- Proficiency in AutoCAD for layout and engineering drawing preparation.
Desirable / Added Advantage Skills
- Experience with project planning and scheduling tools such as MS Project or Primavera.
- Exposure to 3D modelling, 3D plant layout and factory simulation tools (e.g., Factory Suite or equivalent).
- Ability to read and interpret pneumatic and hydraulic circuit diagrams.
- Exposure to automation initiatives, digitalization, or Industry 4.0related projects.
