Role & responsibilities
About the Role
TeamLease Services Limited is one of India's largest staffing and human capital solutions companies, managing the employment lifecycle for hundreds of thousands of associates across thousands of client organisations nationwide. We are investing in a new generation of AI-powered platform products spanning payroll, compliance, hiring, and workforce management, and are building out our AI/ML engineering capability to deliver on that vision.
We are looking for an AI Developer to join our growing AI/ML engineering team as a hands-on builder. Working closely with the AI Lead Engineer, you will help design, build, and ship AI features into our core platforms, including intelligent payroll checks, candidate matching, and compliance monitoring. This is a build role: you will be one of the first engineers establishing production patterns for AI in our organisation, not maintaining an existing system.
What You Will Do
- Build and ship AI use cases: develop, test, and deploy the models and pipelines behind features such as payroll anomaly detection, intelligent job/candidate matching, and automated compliance alerting.
- Work hands-on with LLMs and RAG: build retrieval-augmented generation pipelines and prompt/tool-calling workflows, and integrate them into our conversational AI assistant.
- Integrate AI into production services: wire AI/ML features into our microservices (Node.js/NestJS, FastAPI), working closely with product engineering teams on clean API contracts.
- Build evaluation and monitoring: write test suites and evaluation pipelines that catch model regressions,
hallucinations, and data quality issues before they reach production.
- Partner on data foundations: collaborate with data engineering as pipeline and data platform capability matures, and leverage existing search/matching infrastructure as a reference implementation.
- Handle data responsibly: work within data-privacy-compliant guardrails when handling personal and payroll data, in line with India's DPDP Act, 2023.
What You Bring
- 2-5 years of software engineering experience, with meaningful hands-on exposure to at least one production or near-production ML/AI project.
- Solid Python fundamentals; working familiarity with at least one ML framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn).
- Hands-on experience with at least one LLM API and basic RAG pipeline construction (embeddings, vector search, prompt design).
- Comfort with SQL and structured data handling; willingness to learn tools such as Kafka, dbt, and Airflow.
- Working knowledge of, or genuine willingness to learn, Node.js/NestJS or FastAPI well enough to integrate AI features into existing microservices.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: git workflows, unit testing, code review, CI/CD basics.
- A builder's mindset: comfortable with ambiguity and being one of the first to establish a new practice area.
Good to Have
- Exposure to vector databases or search infrastructure (OpenSearch, Vespa.ai, Pinecone, FAISS).
- Interest in or exposure to HR-tech, staffing, or workforce data domains.
- Prior experience in a fast-scaling engineering organisation.
